\n\tWhen Pearl Jam<\/a> announced plans to headline the 10th annual Ohana Festival<\/a> earlier this month, many fans had the same question: \u201cWho will be playing drums?\u201d The band hasn\u2019t played a show since Matt Cameron announced his departure last year,<\/a> and they\u2019ve yet to indicate who is going to replace him.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in a new interview on SiriusXM\u2019s Pearl Jam Radio, guitarist Stone Gossard strongly implied they\u2019ve made their pick. At the very least, they\u2019ll make it official once they take the stage at Ohana on Sept. 27. \u201cThere\u2019s not enough mystery in the world,\u201d Gossard said. \u201cI think the band is very excited that we\u2019re actually getting to play. It\u2019s been a while and the fact that we get to do it at Ohana makes it even doubly exciting. And the fact that nobody knows who\u2019s going to play drums with us even makes it triply exciting. So, it\u2019s our mystery wrapped in an enigma and we\u2019re relishing in it right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a February interview with Rolling Stone,<\/a> Eddie Vedder evaded directly answering the question. \u201cIf I were to say anything,\u201d he said, \u201cI think we\u2019d wanna have a band discussion about what we\u2019d wanna say or who would be the messenger or whatever \u2026 We\u2019re in the lab, we\u2019re woodshedding, excited. It\u2019s cool to think of change. As much as we\u2019d like to have done it the way we did it forever \u2014 and we\u2019ll still be able to do that thing \u2014 I think we\u2019re all just excited for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis answer, however, suggested they\u2019d already settled on a drummer, but weren\u2019t yet ready to reveal it. But in April, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready flatly said that wasn\u2019t the case. \u201cI think I\u2019m kind of done with the break,\u201d he told American Songwriter.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m ready to go out again whenever, you know, or start working on another record. We\u2019ve just got to find a new drummer, you know? We don\u2019t have one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFans have spent the past few months feverishly speculating about who the band will hire. Some nostalgic fans pinned their hopes on original drummer Dave Krusen, who they brought back into the fold for one show in 2022 when Cameron came down with Covid. But in an Instagram comment that he\u2019s now deleted, Krusen shot down the idea. \u201cNo,\u201d he wrote, \u201cthey have a new drummer already.\u201d<\/p>\n
