Lewis Capaldi<\/a> has opened up about his friendship with Sam Fender<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Fontaines D.C.<\/a>\u00a0frontman\u00a0Grian Chatten<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Scottish singer-songwriter\u00a0returned in November last year with an EP, \u2018Survive\u2019<\/a>, marking his first new music since his 2023 album \u2018Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s opened up about how his relationship with Fender and Chatten helped inspire him when getting back in the studio.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with Billboard<\/a>, Capaldi said that the trio \u2013 who all live near each other in north London \u2013 send each other new music recommendations, which have included NME 100<\/a> artist Bleech 9:3<\/a>, as well as Aaron Rowe and Jacob Alon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also explained how attending the 2025 Mercury Prize Ceremony<\/a>, where both Fender and Chatten were nominated (with Fender ultimately winning for \u2018People Watching\u2019<\/a>), motivated him to take more creative risks.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Fender and Chatten] talk about music as art \u2013 and I know this sounds fucking mental coming from someone who is also a musician \u2013 but they really fucking care about everything they\u2019re putting out,\u201d Capaldi told the publication.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is so inspiring. What they have instilled in me is to really take time [in the studio], and start properly giving a fuck about what I\u2019m saying and what the songs sound like.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group also jokingly refer to themselves as \u201cThe Syndicate\u201d, and last summer\u00a0were spotted hanging out together in Mayo, Ireland<\/a>, and even went on a 90-minute cruise together along the Galway-Mayo border.<\/p>\n

In other news, Capaldi is topping the bill at BST Hyde Park<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Roundhay Festival 2026<\/a> on Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12. Last month, the Scottish singer-songwriter played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, and ahead of the gig, surprised fans with a pop-up concert outside a florist in New York\u2019s Penn Station. It was there that he debuted new track \u2018Stay Love\u2019, and\u00a0the gig drew such a big crowd that it was almost shut down by police<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In other news,\u00a0Capaldi was recently revealed to feature on the\u00a0\u201cmystery vinyl\u201d<\/a>\u00a0with pitched-down vocals, with the official release set to arrive in record stores on\u00a0Record Store Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His 2025 EP followed his\u00a0surprise set on the Pyramid Stage at last year\u2019s Glastonbury<\/a>, which was a particularly poignant slot as his\u00a0break from performing live<\/a>\u00a0started after he was\u00a0forced to cut his set on the same stage in 2023 short due to struggling with tics caused by Tourette\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since making his comeback, Lewis Capaldi has\u00a0made a surprise appearance at a charity event<\/a>\u00a0alongside\u00a0Matty Healy<\/a>,\u00a0made a cameo in Taylor Swift\u2019s \u2018Opalite\u2019 music video<\/a>, and\u00a0hinted at new music on the way<\/a>.<\/p>\n
