{"id":463846,"date":"2026-05-23T20:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T20:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/463846\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T20:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T20:06:08","slug":"keane-confirms-ferencvaros-exit-after-enjoyable-tenure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/463846\/","title":{"rendered":"Keane confirms Ferencvaros exit after &#8216;enjoyable&#8217; tenure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Robbie Keane has confirmed his exit as manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/soccer\/2026\/0522\/1574773-keane-reported-to-have-stepped-down-as-ferencvaros-boss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reports had suggested<\/a> that the Republic of Ireland record goalscorer would tender his resignation after almost a year and a half in charge, with speculation linking him to Celtic.<\/p>\n<p>The 45-year-old Dubliner has had a successful tenure as manager of Hungary&#8217;s most successful club.<\/p>\n<p>Last season he led the Budapest giants to the league title, while this season they finished runners-up in the top flight but triumphed in the cup final.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Keane announed his departure in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After an incredibly enjoyable and successful 16 months at Ferencvaros, I have made the difficult decision to bring my time at the football club to an end,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tpe\" data-embed=\"instagram\" data-id=\"DYsANGIDfYg\">\n<p>He added: &#8220;After a great deal of thought and reflection, I believe now is the right time for me to move on. It is not a decision I have taken lightly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Keane had previously won an Israeli league title as manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv during his one year in charge of the club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Robbie Keane has confirmed his exit as manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
