Charli XCX<\/a> has shared another B-side from her new album era in the form of the punky \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019 \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The song is the \u201cflip side\u201d to\u00a0her latest single, the gritty, sassy \u2018SS26\u2019, which she released on Thursday<\/a> (May 21). In keeping with her new policy of returning to the traditional pre-streaming system of A-sides and B-sides, now she has shared its companion piece, \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019.<\/p>\n

Like the previous single \u2018Rock Music<\/a>\u2019 and its B-side \u2018I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day And Night<\/a>\u2019, the assumption is that \u2018SS26\u2019 will end up on Charli\u2019s upcoming new album, but \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019 will not, instead being exclusive to the vinyl\u00a07\u201d single and via her \u201cb.sides\u201d Instagram account.<\/p>\n

Explaining the release strategy in a video on that account, Charli said: \u201cThe B-sides are sort of like coupled with some of the songs that are coming out ahead of the album. The reason that they\u2019re paired together, these two songs, are because, in ways, they\u2019re totally opposite from each other, and that is find of the main point of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0sort of a\u00a0mirror\u2026there are specifically sonic things about it that are extremely opposite to \u2018SS26\u2019\u00a0and I think\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0what made it a good B-side, a good pair,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019 motors along with\u00a0a pop-punk energy, with serrated, sampled guitars and distorted vocals, and it comes with a video shot in Paris the day after the \u2018SS26\u2019 video was filmed. \u201cWas honestly v hungover lol,\u201d Charli has said of the new video shoot. Like \u2018I Keep\u00a0On\u00a0Thinking Bout You Every Single Day\u00a0And\u00a0Night\u2019,\u00a0it appears \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019 will not be released onto streaming platforms, but Charli did encourage fans to \u201crip the audio\u201d from the Instagram account for the\u00a0previous\u00a0B-side.<\/p>\n

Last month, Charli\u2019s team\u00a0confirmed that she was finishing work on her new album<\/a>, and shortly afterwards,\u00a0in an interview with\u00a0British Vogue, the lyric \u201cI think the dance floor is dead, so now we\u2019re making rock music\u201d<\/a>\u00a0was previewed. It prompted speculation that the album would take a heavier direction, though\u00a0Charli later clarified<\/a>, \u201cI never said I was making a rock album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Rock Music\u2019 then arrived alongside a grungy music video, which saw her enlist collaborators A.G. Cook<\/a>, Finn Keane (formerly known as\u00a0Easyfun) and her husband,\u00a0The 1975<\/a>\u2018s George Daniel, as her rock band.<\/p>\n

All four new songs have seen Charli\u00a0depart\u00a0from the club atmosphere of the 2024 cultural phenomenon that was \u2018Brat<\/a>\u2019, and they follow on from\u00a0her soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell\u2019s Wuthering\u00a0Heights<\/a>, released in February.<\/p>\n

As well as working on that soundtrack, the \u2018360\u2019 singer also\u00a0penned music for the A24 film\u00a0Mother Mary<\/a>,\u00a0starring\u00a0Anne Hathaway<\/a>, starred in her own\u00a0mockumentary\u00a0The Moment<\/a>, took on a role in the\u00a0new romance\u00a0Erupcja<\/a>, and locked in a role in fantasy\u00a0100 Nights Of Hero.<\/p>\n

She also played a comedic version of herself in the TV show\u00a0Overcompensating<\/a>, and was recently\u00a0cast alongside\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0star Milly Alcock in a new horror film<\/a>\u00a0directed by Takashi Miike.<\/p>\n
