One of Cork city’s busiest Asian food takeaways suffered extensive damage last night after a thief kicked his way through a door and robbed their till and some stock.<\/p>\n
The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, at Panda Asian Street Food on Evergreen Road in Turner’s Cross. It’s the latest serious incident in an area that has seen a sharp rise in violent and anti-social behaviour, which locals say is linked to at least two premises in the area that have become notorious for drug dealing. In April, CorkBeo reported on how a man was caught on camera running along the street brandishing a very large knife.<\/a><\/p>\n In the early hours of this morning, the Panda Take-Away on Evergreen Road was targeted, with the owners telling CorkBeo this morning that they are ‘devastated’ by the attack on their premises but will be open for business as normal later. They said they wanted to share the footage and images of the assault in the hope that it would help the Garda investigation and to also warn other business owners and residents in the area to be on their guard.<\/p>\n They said it would be difficult to reopen today as it’s Sunday and they won’t be able to get tradesmen to carry out proper repairs – but they are determined this attack on their business won’t stop them trading.<\/p>\n Window and door was smashed at Panda takeaway on Evergreen Road(Image: CorkBeo)<\/p>\n Posting to social media, they said: “Never thought we\u2019d ever have to post something like this, but unfortunately Panda Asian Street Food was broken into and robbed early this morning.”<\/p>\n “At approximately 4:15am, a young male smashed our window and broke into the premises, stealing our monitor and till. In the process, he ripped the screen from the socket, causing major damage to wiring throughout the shop. He then returned again at approximately 4:35am, where he took drinks before leaving for a second time.”<\/p>\n “It\u2019s really upsetting seeing a small family business targeted like this, especially knowing the hard work, long hours, and sacrifice that goes on behind the scenes every single day.”<\/p>\n The owners say the Gardai are investigating the incident and have aksed their neighbours and the wider community to help, saying: “The Garda\u00ed are currently investigating the incident. If anyone saw anything suspicious around the Turners Cross area at these times, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage, we would really appreciate you reaching out to us privately.
