Christopher Nolan has set Lupita Nyong’o to play both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, joining a cast that includes Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron. The film is slated to open in France on 15 July 2026, with Robert Pattinson and Benny Safdie among the ensemble.

Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey is stacking the deck with a twist: Lupita Nyong’o will traverse both sides of the Trojan saga as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. She joins Matt Damon’s Ulysses, Zendaya’s Athena, Charlize Theron’s Calypso and a starry roster that tilts myth toward spectacle. Nolan has already fielded debate over Travis Scott’s turn as a bard and the gleefully anachronistic armor for Agamemnon, with costumer Ellen Mirojnick laying out the logic in detail. France gets the voyage on 15 July 2026, and the conversation has plainly set sail early.

Christopher Nolan dives into Homer’s epic

Ambition rarely scares Christopher Nolan. His next challenge is Homer’s classic, reimagined as a large-scale spectacle titled The Odyssey. The film is slated for US theaters on July 15, 2026, a mid-summer slot that signals confidence. Expect Nolan’s tactile style, sweeping location work, and a focus on human stakes within mythic scale. Familiar collaborators return, joined by fresh faces eager to test themselves against timeless roles.

Lupita Nyong’o takes on dual roles

The headline belongs to Lupita Nyong’o. Known from Black Panther and Us, she will portray two pivotal figures: Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. The former is the spark that ignites a war, the latter a queen navigating tragedy and power. Dual roles in a studio epic are rare, and this choice points to a mirrored structure that could thread fate, memory, and identity across the film’s shifting timelines.

An all-star cast brings Homer’s characters to life

Nolan’s ensemble aims for scale and texture. Matt Damon leads as Ulysses, charting the long road home. Charlize Theron steps into Calypso’s magnetic orbit, while Anne Hathaway brings Penelope’s endurance to the fore. Tom Holland appears as Telemachus, searching for a father and a future. Robert Pattinson takes on Antinous, a suitor with a sharpened edge. The bench runs deep: Zendaya as Athena, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, and Mia Goth as Melantho. Rumors continue to swirl about Elliott Page as Achilles, though the role remains unconfirmed.

Nolan addresses creative choices and controversies

Early footage sparked debates, and Nolan engaged them head-on. Casting Travis Scott as a bard raised eyebrows, yet he frames it as a nod to oral poetry’s living pulse, akin to rap’s cadence. Costume choices also drew scrutiny, particularly Agamemnon’s armor. Nolan cites research into darkened Mycenaean bronze and, with costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, argues these materials serve character and status more than strict museum-grade fidelity. The intent, he says, is clarity of meaning, not textbook reenactment.

A cinematic epic worth waiting for

All signs indicate a summer event built for big screens and bigger conversations. With The Odyssey anchored by Nyong’o’s twin performances and a cast stacked with marquee names, the film targets both spectacle and resonance. Will Nolan’s blend of rigor and risk capture Homer’s heartbeat for modern audiences? July will tell, and the anticipation already feels like an odyssey of its own.

Christopher Nolan has set Lupita Nyong’o to play both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, joining a cast that…

[32
321,93,61,60
post-465548","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-celebrities","tag-celebrities","tag-entertainment","tag-ie","tag-ireland
["GET
