{"id":465792,"date":"2026-05-25T06:21:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T06:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/465792\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T06:21:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T06:21:08","slug":"singapore-reports-lower-than-expected-inflation-for-april-at-1-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/465792\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore reports lower-than-expected inflation for April at 1.8%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A housewife (R) buys vegetables at a wet market in Singapore<\/p>\n<p>Roslan Rahman | Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Singapore on Monday reported a lower-than-expected rise in consumer prices for April at 1.8% on the back of a smaller increase in services <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mas.gov.sg\/-\/media\/mas-media-library\/news\/consumer-price-developments\/2026\/consumer-price-developments-in-april-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">and retail inflation.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Reuters-polled economists had estimated headline inflation at 2%. <\/p>\n<p>Core inflation \u2014 which strips out prices of private transport and accommodation \u2014 came in at 1.4% compared with expectations of 1.7%.<\/p>\n<p>The Monetary Authority of Singapore, however, said that the city-state&#8217;s imported cost pressures are expected to pick up and broaden in the months ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As higher energy and other input costs arising from the developments in the Middle East pass through global supply chains, they will raise production and transport costs for a wider range of Singapore&#8217;s imported goods and services,&#8221;
