Kilkenny\u2019s among the first seven counties expected to reach a National Broadband Ireland completion milestone.<\/p>\n
The main build works for the country\u2019s largest telecommunications infrastructure project are due to be reached this Summer \u2013 19,000 premises across the county are included in the State\u2019s Intervention Area where minimum speeds of 500megabits per second are to be delivered to homes, businesses, farms and schools.<\/p>\n
Hailed as the \u2018biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, Co Kilkenny has received \u20ac72millon of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan\u2019.<\/p>\n
June 2026 is the target for Kilkenny, Westmeath and Longford to have the main build of the fibre network completed\u00a0with July mooted for Tipperary, Waterford, Meath and Dublin.<\/p>\n
TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer of National Broadband Ireland, said: \u201cAt NBI, we are proud of the progress we have made in delivering the National Broadband Plan, one of the most significant infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the State, and we\u2019re equally proud of the fact that this project is being delivered on time and on budget.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are now firmly in the final phase of the main build, with substantial completion in sight by the end of 2026 and Kilkenny amongst the first counties to reach this milestone this summer. Each connection we make is a step toward closing the digital divide and ensuring every community in Ireland can fully participate in the digital economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the final delivery approach, NBI will maintain a clear cadence of rollout milestones on a county-by-county basis throughout the remainder of 2026, providing greater visibility for communities awaiting connection.<\/p>\n
