On Friday (May 22), the \u2018Messy<\/a>\u2018 hitmaker shared the new track, marking her first new music since releasing \u2018I\u2019m Only Fucking Myself\u2019. After taking to the stage at BBC Radio 1\u2019s Big Weekend in Herrington Country Park, she performed it live for the first time on Saturday (May 23).<\/p>\n

It comes after the former NME Cover star<\/a>\u00a0caught up with us on the red carpet at\u00a0The 71st Ivor Novello Awards<\/a> earlier this week, which saw her awarded the PRS For Music Most Performed Work trophy for \u2018Messy\u2019.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the new track \u2013 which you can watch her perform below \u2013 she said the song was about \u201cknowing that you\u2019re missing a high, but also knowing that being grounded is a much safer place to be and so much more rewarding,\u201d Young added. \u201cIt totally is a bright new chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

On working with Blake on it, she added that he was \u201csomeone who\u2019s heavily inspired me throughout my whole life, and said \u201cworking with him and calling him a friend is just so beautiful\u201d.<\/p>\n

Blake also performed at Radio 1\u2019s Big Weekend, with his set immediately following Young\u2019s. She later joined him onstage for \u2018Trying Times\u2019 track \u2018Make Something Up\u2019.<\/p>\n

It comes shortly after\u00a0Young recently made her return to the live stage<\/a>\u00a0after\u00a0cancelling her 2025 tour<\/a>\u00a0to recover from exhaustion, having previously\u00a0collapsed on stage in New York City<\/a>. She would later go on to\u00a0open up about seeking treatment for addiction<\/a>\u00a0during that hiatus and attending AA meetings to help get things back on track.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0NME on the red carpet at the Ivors, Young told us that while she believes \u201call healing journeys are never ending\u201d, she is \u201cdefinitely in a much better place\u201d, and feels \u201cexcited and ready to perform and to release music\u201d now.<\/p>\n

As for the support she received from fans after opening up about her personal struggles, she added: \u201cMy fans inspire me in the same way I hope to inspire them. I feel like I\u2019ve never tried to be especially honest\u2026 it just comes very naturally to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really have any other choice but to be honest, so if people connect to that, and that\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Numerous artists also praised the \u2018Messy\u2019 singer for speaking so candidly about the intense demand faced by touring artists.\u00a0Lily Allen<\/a>, for example, said she was \u201cin awe\u201d of the BRIT and Grammy winner, and\u00a0Victoria Canal praised her for raising more awareness<\/a>\u00a0to the detrimental effect that touring schedules can have on a musician\u2019s mental health.<\/p>\n

As for if she can feel the tide turning when it comes to artists setting stronger boundaries to protect their wellbeing, Young told\u00a0NME: \u201cI never intended it to start a movement, but I hope that it does in some way.\u201d<\/p>\n
