Loved-up Max Branning gets down on one knee and asks Cindy Beale to be his wife on EastEnders next week \u2013 leaving her lost for words.<\/p>\n

Determined to prove the naysayers wrong, Max makes his bold move during Ross Marshall and Vicki Fowler’s wedding reception, causing gasps throughout the marquee.<\/p>\n

But will Cindy say yes to this grand declaration of love \u2013 and, more importantly, does this mean she is Max’s mystery bride from the New Year’s Day flashforward<\/a>?<\/p>\n

“Max’s proposal comes from nowhere,” explains our EastEnders insider. “We know Max doesn’t do much thinking with his head, but this is reckless, even by his standards. He might like Cindy, but this gesture is all for show…”<\/p>\n

At the wedding, Max feels judged by all the sneering comments aimed at him and Cindy, growing increasingly irritated that no one has any faith in them lasting properly as a couple. But with romantic histories as colourful as both of theirs, the gossip is inescapable.<\/p>\n

As Cindy clashes with Kathy Beale, agitated Max takes to the microphone and readies himself to propose. Getting down on one knee, and suddenly producing a ring, Max beams as he asks Cindy to be his wife\u2026<\/p>\n

“Max takes the opportunity to lay it on thick,” reveals our spy. “He talks about how much he loves Cindy, delivering a gushing outpouring before the proposal. But we all know with him and Cindy it’s mainly lust, and Linda Carter’s<\/a> the real object of his affections\u2026”<\/p>\n

With Vicki’s thunder stolen and the onlookers open-mouthed, Max is left waiting as Cindy is too stunned to speak.<\/p>\n

Although they enjoyed some secret saucy hook-ups before successfully going public with their relationship, it’s still early days for Cindy. Max isn’t a man that she’s found easy to trust, so this last-minute proposal comes as a massive surprise.<\/p>\n

“Cindy is afraid of getting her heart broken again,” explains our source. “Max is exciting and dangerous, but he isn’t known for his loyalty. Before she commits, she needs to know he’s in it for the long haul\u2026”<\/p>\n

If Cindy says yes, then perhaps she is the shock flashforward bride after all. But could a marriage really work between these two fiery troublemakers? Max had better watch that he keeps his wandering eye in check \u2013 after all, Cindy’s got form when it comes to revenge\u2026 <\/p>\n

The scenes play out as part of a special week<\/a>, where four episodes take place over one night. With several stories taking centre stage, show bosses are billing it as ‘the night that changes everything’\u2026<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. <\/p>\n
