{"id":467478,"date":"2026-05-26T08:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T08:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/467478\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T08:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T08:34:10","slug":"hard-to-believe-disbelief-as-mayo-windfarm-planning-notice-pinned-to-electric-pole-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/467478\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Hard to believe&#8217; &#8211; Disbelief as Mayo windfarm planning notice pinned to electric pole &#8211; news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">A Mayo councillor has expressed his disbelief that a site notice connected to a proposed windfarm has been pinned to an electric pole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Erris councillor Gerry Coyle discovered the notice attached to the electric pole in Geesala.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Directly above the notice is a warning sign which states \u2018Danger Keep Away&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cllr Coyle said he could not believe what he was seeing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThey nailed or screwed it on to an electric pole. Is that what we are dealing with? This isn\u2019t a telegraph pole, it\u2019s an electric pole,\u201d said Cllr Coyle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to believe that they would screw one of these signs to an electric supply where the sign above says \u2018Danger Keep Away\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s very hard to see them having heed on the people in the area or the environment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3850740_12_articleinline_windfarmsign.jpg\" alt=\"The windfarm notice pinned to the electricity pole in Geesala. Picture: Courtesy of Gerry Coyle<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">RWE Renewables Ireland Ltd has identified a study area for the Muingmore Onshore Windfarm, which is located approximately 11km west of Bangor Erris, and 4km north of Geesala.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The development would include 13 turbines, associated internal roads, an electrical substation, underground cabling, a battery storage facility and ancillary works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There has been concern amongst local community groups about the project.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZiCV6fDAb0\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ZiCV6fDAb0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Western People (@WesternPeople) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WesternPeople\/status\/2058911626653282366?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 25, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cllr Coyle said Erris has already taken its fair share in windfarm developments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThere is no reason whatsoever to put these windfarms in a scenic area, particularly with the torture we have gone through with planning for our local people,\u201d said Cllr Coyle. \u201cErris has given enough. End of story.
