The Weezer<\/a> frontman uploaded a series of lo-fi, acoustic covers to YouTube under the playlist title \u201crandum cuverz\u201d yesterday (Monday May 25), though some fans are speculating it might have been an accident.<\/p>\n

They include Michael Jackson<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Billie Jean\u2019, Sam Hunt\u2019s \u2018Body Like A Back Road\u2019, Post Malone<\/a> and Quavo<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Congratulations\u2019, Radiohead<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Creep\u2019 and Nirvana<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Drain You\u2019 and \u2018Lithium\u2019.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, he\u2019s also shared his versions of Metallica<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Enter Sandman\u2019, Outkast<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Hey Ya\u2019, Eagles<\/a>\u2018 \u2018Hotel California\u2019, Whitney Houston<\/a>\u2018s \u2018I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me\u2019 Dolly Parton<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Jolene\u2019, Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/a>\u2018 \u2018Sweet Child O\u2019 Mine\u2019, Green Day<\/a>\u2018s \u2018When I Come Around\u2019, and Harry Nilsson<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Without You\u2019.<\/p>\n

Many of the recordings are dated 2018 or 2019, while some go back more than 20 years. Meanwhile, some of the newly shared tracks are ones the band have covered live, while others are completely unheard.<\/p>\n

Some fans have speculated that Cuomo may have accidentally made the videos public while privately archiving Dropbox demos, but he has not confirmed or denied this.<\/p>\n

In other news, last month the band released an optimistic new single called \u2018Shine Again\u2019<\/a>, produced by Kenny Beats<\/a>. It marked their first new music since 2022.<\/p>\n

The song is the lead single from Weezer\u2019s upcoming 20th album, although the band have not yet officially revealed the title or release date.<\/p>\n

Back in March, Weezer played a pop-up rooftop gig in Los Angeles<\/a> as part of a series of \u201cinitiation\u201d events in the run-up to their huge 2026 US tour.<\/p>\n

Other events as part of the \u201cinitiation shows\u201d also included an appearance at a pickleball tournament and an intimate gig at the chain restaurant Barney\u2019s Beanery.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Gathering\u2019 tour kicks off September 8 in Sacramento and spans 32 shows, before concluding in Los Angeles on October 24.\u00a0Visit here<\/a>\u00a0for tickets and more information.<\/p>\n

As well as gearing up for a new album and North American tour, Weezer also released a newly-unearthed album consisting of early demos and rarities <\/a>on\u00a0Record Store Day 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0last spoke to Weezer in 2024<\/a>, and Rivers Cuomo looked back at the process of making their 1994 debut album \u2013 three decades after it was released.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one thing that struck me was how physically close we all were, not just the four of us, but there was a whole crowd of young men, packed into very small apartments in a very small part of Los Angeles,\u201d he shared. \u201c[We] were just constantly hanging out and talking, debating and discussing music and style, and we didn\u2019t even have television sets back then so there was very little to distract us\u2026 And obviously we had no wives, children or girlfriends.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cWhen we released the \u2018Blue\u2019 album, I definitely felt like it was the greatest album of all time.
