China\u2019s\u00a0Alipay<\/a>\u00a0has launched what it calls \u201cthe world\u2019s first AI Wallet and Token Pay to power agentic economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company announced this offering Tuesday (May 26) as part of a new artificial intelligence (AI) payments infrastructure for companies ranging from AI firms to traditional retailers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the essence of commerce remains unchanged in the age of AI, the emergence of AI agents is reshaping everything,\u201d\u00a0Cyril Han<\/a>, CEO of Alipay parent Ant Group, said in a news release provided to PYMNTS.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrawing on 22 years of technological expertise and commercial know-how, Alipay is building a new generation of AI payment services to accelerate the growth of the\u00a0agentic commerce<\/a>\u00a0ecosystem,\u201d Han added.<\/p>\n

Those services include the wallet, which is designed to give users more visibility into and control over payments made via AI agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo ensure\u00a0AI agents<\/a>\u00a0make trusted transactions on behalf of users, Alipay launched China\u2019s first Agentic Commerce Trust Protocol with partners, creating a \u2018common language\u2019 for collaboration between AI and service platforms,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n

Alipay also launched an intelligent security system for AI payments \u201cto provide foundational safeguards for every AI agent-driven transaction,\u201d according to the release.<\/p>\n

In addition to the AI Wallet, Alipay has introduced Token Pay, designed to provide a solution for AI companies\u2019 transaction-related needs, such as global\u00a0subscription payments<\/a>\u00a0or token top-up in AI agents.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cAs AI agents begin helping people search for information, shop, order food, and even make money, payments are no longer just the \u2018final step\u2019 \u2014 they are becoming a capability embedded from the very beginning,\u201d Lin Zhu, general manager of Alipay\u2019s AI payment business.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly when trusted transactions, seamless payments and secure controls are all in place can agentic commerce truly take off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The launch comes at a time when many merchants are\u00a0not prepared<\/a>\u00a0for the advent of AI agents, PYMNTS wrote earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAI agents do not browse, do not click, and do not read product descriptions written for humans,\u201d according to the report. \u201cThey query, evaluate and transact in seconds. Merchants whose infrastructure is not built to receive them are not losing sales to a better price.
