Beachgoers watched in horror on Tuesday afternoon as an allegedly drunk man brandished a knife at a busy seaside spot.<\/p>\n

Several Garda units, including a Public Order van, responded to the emergency at Loughbeg Beach in Ringaskiddy at around 4:30pm yesterday. According to witnesses, a man in his 30s, accompanied by a woman, became aggressive after drinking alcohol and produced a knife.<\/p>\n

The shocking scene prompted alarm among hundreds of members of the public, who had gathered on the beach to enjoy the mini-heatwave<\/a>, reports the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s Red FM. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: \u201cGarda\u00ed responded to reports of an alleged public order incident at Loughbeg Beach, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork on Tuesday 26th May 2026 at approximately 4.30pm.<\/p>\n

There were no injuries reported. A man (30s) who was arrested at the scene has since been charged. He is due to appear before Cork District Court at a later date..\u201d<\/p>\n

Loughbeg Beach is a popular spot with families, being just a 30-minute drive from Cork city centre. Public safety on Ireland’s beaches has been a topic of discussion in recent days, with councillors across the country and here in Cork calling for an extension to the lifeguard service season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Garda Public Order vans<\/a> are usually deployed during riots or in advance of large scale planned events like protests or major sports matches.<\/p>\n
