The Roast of Kevin Hart<\/a> is over \u2014 we\u2019re now in the midst of the roast of The Roast of Kevin Hart. The comedians at the center of the staple comedy event, which started on Comedy Central and now is a Netflix heavy hitter, are still dealing with the resulting personal and public fallout. Yesterday, Kevin Hart went on the radio show \u201cThe Breakfast Club<\/a>\u201d to address the criticism he\u2019s received over Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s jokes. Largely, Hart defended Hinchcliffe\u2019s right to make them. \u201cYeah, the George Floyd joke, it wasn\u2019t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience \u2014 but our audience that\u2019s watching the roast, if you\u2019re watching the roast, you get why they\u2019re doing it,\u201d Hart said. \u201cYou get why the racial humor is on the table. I wasn\u2019t shocked. That\u2019s what they do. Go look at the Tom Brady<\/a> one. That\u2019s what they do. It happens every year when they do a roast. It\u2019s not a new agenda.\u201d He added, \u201cIt\u2019s Tony Hinchcliffe. I don\u2019t expect less. I don\u2019t expect more.\u201d<\/p>\n During the roast, Hinchcliffe told Hart that \u201cthe Black community is so proud of you. Right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can\u2019t breathe.\u201d In the aftermath of the roast, George Floyd\u2019s brother Terrence Floyd went on The Latest With Loren LoRosa<\/a> and criticized Hart. He called the joke \u201ctasteless\u201d and said Hart should have had \u201cWill Smith energy<\/a>\u201d to respond to Hinchcliffe.<\/p>\n Hart made it clear he isn\u2019t going to do that. \u201cWhatever the dialogue is, my rebuttal is simplicity,\u201d Hart said. \u201cRemove me from it. I didn\u2019t say it. If you are upset that the night went on, that\u2019s a different conversation. It\u2019s nothing I could do. It\u2019s a production.\u201d He added: \u201cStop talking as if I said it.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Hinchcliffe has spent his time post-roast smarting from Chelsea Handler\u2019s set, during which she said he uses \u201cCrest White supremacist strips\u201d for his teeth. \u201cIt\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve been called a Nazi multiple times in just a few hours,\u201d Hinchcliffe said on his Kill Tony podcast<\/a>. \u201cI guess that\u2019s L.A. writers\u2019 rooms \u2014 a lot of mentally ill liberals out there. Somehow with all these fucking Blacks and Jews and Mexicans around me, I guess I\u2019m a fucking Nazi somehow.\u201d He added that he was not \u201clit up\u201d by Handler but rather she \u201cjust kept coming at\u201d him, which, to Hart\u2019s whole point, is literally what roasts are for.<\/p>\n Handler has criticized both Hinchcliffe\u2019s and host Shane Gillis\u2019s roast sets as racist. \u201cI knew enough about Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s and Shane\u2019s backgrounds,\u201d she said on Deon Cole\u2019s Funny Knowing You<\/a> podcast on May 20. \u201cI had ex-girlfriends blowing up my DMs that had dated Shane and were telling me stuff about him. So based on that, I was like, \u2018Oh, these guys are pretty bad \u2026 they\u2019re racist, that they\u2019re bigots, that they\u2019re sexist. They think they\u2019re invincible.\u201d She added that she specifically did not like Gillis joking about lynching. \u201cIt was gross,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t find those jokes to be funny. Lynching is not a joke.\u201d Meanwhile, Gillis hasn\u2019t responded to anything about the roast publicly.
