Lebanese and Israeli military officials are set to hold their first security talks on Friday in Washington, with talks at a political level scheduled on June 2nd and 3rd. <\/p>\n

At least 12 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, according to local media. <\/p>\n

Among those killed was a solider in the Lebanese armed forces. <\/p>\n

In a post on social media, the army said the soldier was \u201ctargeted by a hostile Israeli airstrike\u201d while travelling between the villages of Zefta and Deir ez-Zahrani in the Nabatieh area. <\/p>\n

Lebanon\u2019s official National News Agency reported at least six people, including children, were killed in an Israeli drone attack on the Adloun Highway in the Nabi Sari area of southern Lebanon. <\/p>\n

The victims \u2013 reported to be members of the same family \u2013 were killed \u201cas they were trying to flee from the threatened villages to a safe place at dawn\u201d, according to the news agency. <\/p>\n

More deaths were reported in the southern Lebanese cities of Tyre and Sidon where the Israeli military said it is targeting Hizbullah infrastructure. – Guardian<\/p>\n

Iran condemns US attacks<\/p>\n

Tehran condemns the \u200cUS attack on areas in \u200bIran\u2019s Bandar Abbas, the country\u2019s foreign ministry \u200bspokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei \u2060said in a \u200cstatement \u200con Thursday.<\/p>\n

Iran \u200balso expresses solidarity \u2060with \u200bOman after \u201cUS officials\u2019 \u200bthreats\u201d, Baghaei \u200cadded, following president \u200bDonald Trump\u2019s threat to \u2060blow \u2060up \u200bOman if it did not \u201cbehave just like everybody else\u201d in regards \u200cto the \u2060control of the Strait \u200cof Hormuz. – Reuters<\/p>\n

After 88 days of near-total internet blackout in Iran<\/a>, long-delayed messages, images and poems flooded phones and social media feeds at about 5pm on Tuesday, when still-limited connectivity flickered back to life, reports Deepa Parent.<\/p>\n

The first reactions, however, were not celebratory. Many new posts were threaded with scepticism, anxiety and anger.<\/p>\n

Two people were killed in Tyre in an Israeli drone strike on Thursday morning, according to Lebanon\u2019s official National News Agency.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, the Israeli military said residents in the area should move north, warning it would act \u201cwith great force\u201d against the Iran-backed Hizbullah in the zone. <\/p>\n

The statement on Wednesday appeared to signal a further escalation after more than 120 strikes hit Lebanon\u2019s south and east on Tuesday, despite a ceasefire. <\/p>\n

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was hitting Hizbullah targets in the ancient coastal city in southern Lebanon, a day after issuing a warning forcing thousands of people to leave Tyre and surrounding areas. – Guardian<\/p>\n

More information on US attack on Iran<\/p>\n

The US has targeted a military facility in Iran and downed four attack drones, US officials said, which prompted an apparent Iranian retaliatory attack on an American airbase in Kuwait.<\/p>\n

US Central Command forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz, according to the officials, and struck a ground control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone. <\/p>\n

Iranian state broadcaster Irib reported later on Thursday the Revolutionary Guards had targeted an American base in Kuwait \u201cthat served as the source of the attack\u201d. <\/p>\n

Kuwait\u2019s army confirmed its air defences were intercepting missile and drone threats just before 6am in Kuwait City. – Guardian<\/p>\n

One Israeli soldier killed and two injured<\/p>\n

The Israeli military said a soldier had been killed and two others injured in northern Israel.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump has threatened to \u201cblow up\u201d Oman if it fails to \u201cbehave\u201d in a casual aside during a cabinet meeting, as the US scrambles to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

The US president made the threat after reports of talks between Iran and Oman about jointly charging a toll for ships passing through the crucial waterway, which has been all but closed since the start of the US-Israel war on Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strait is going to be open to everybody,\u201d Trump declared on Tuesday. \u201cNobody\u2019s going to control it. We\u2019re going to watch over it. We\u2019ll watch over it. But nobody\u2019s going to control it. That\u2019s part of the negotiation that we have.\u201d – Guardian<\/p>\n

Oil prices increase<\/p>\n

Oil prices have rebounded after reports of the escalation in hostilities, after falling by 5 per cent on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Brent North Sea crude, the main international benchmark, rose by 1.8 per cent in Thursday morning trade to $95.95 (\u20ac82.61) a barrel.<\/p>\n

Kuwait and Israel responding to hostile activity<\/p>\n

Kuwait, which hosts a large US base, said it was \u200cresponding to \u200cmissile \u200band drone attacks without saying where the attacks were coming from.<\/p>\n

Israel also reported sounding sirens regarding hostile aircraft activity in northern Israel. <\/p>\n

The Israeli military also said it had begun striking Hizbullah infrastructure in southern Lebanon. – Reuters<\/p>\n

Iran targets US base after US drones attack operation near Strait of Hormuz<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Revolutionary \u200cGuard targeted a US airbase on Thursday after the US military carried out what a Washington official said were strikes on an Iranian drone operation near the Strait of Hormuz, hours after president Donald Trump rejected a report he was close to a \u200bcompromise deal with Tehran.<\/p>\n

The US official told Reuters the military shot down four Iranian attack drones and struck a ground control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese actions were measured, purely defensive \u200band intended to maintain the ceasefire,\u201d the official said. <\/p>\n

The IRGC said it targeted a US base in response to what it described as an early morning US attack near Bandar Abbas airport, Tasnim news agency reported. <\/p>\n
