Ahead of her live return at Mighty Hoopla<\/a>\u00a0this weekend (May 31), Perrie’s ‘closing off’ her debut album era with Passenger Princess, a song previously released in early demo form on the limited Fan Edition of her Top 5 record, Perrie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I thought it\u2019d be nice to release one last thing from the Perrie campaign to close it off nicely,” Pez tells us on FaceTime as she\u2019s chauffeured around London on promo (call it method acting!). “I\u2019m really excited about it \u2013 I love this song so much!”<\/p>\n

“This song was on the Fan Edition of my album, and not many had heard it. It was a demo, so it was very rough, there wasn\u2019t much going on there \u2013 so we revamped it. I love the production, and I just love the concept.”<\/p>\n

Released on Friday (May 29), Passenger Princess sees Perrie embrace her rockier roots, and the gorgey hun’s given Official Charts an exclusive First Listen to the track.<\/p>\n

“I don’t wanna take out the bins,” Perrie sings over jagged guitar licks. “I swear that it’s your turn, I’m convinced. And my patience is on Mounjaro, oh, I don’t wanna sound like a psycho.<\/p>\n

“But I’ve been working hard in my defence. And I’ve been feeling tired, feeling tense. Oh I’ve got all these big ambitions, but I’m stuck in horizontal positions.”<\/p>\n

The tone’s set from the off. Sometimes, even one of the world’s biggest pop stars wants to sit on their arse and doomscroll.<\/p>\n

“The lyrics in this song,” Perrie laughs as we chat through the track. “Just imagine us cackling in the studio together, starting a song with ‘I don\u2019t wanna take out the bins,’ it\u2019s just a bit ridiculous. ‘My patience is on Mounjaro,’ it\u2019s just all very relatable, isn\u2019t it?”<\/p>\n

Perrie worked on Passenger Princess with frequent collaborator\u00a0Nina Nesbitt<\/a>; the pair clearly striking creative gold together.<\/p>\n

“I was in the studio with Nina again, who I wrote If He Wanted To He Would<\/a> with, Perrie explains. “We have such a laugh when we make music together. Music is very serious sometimes, when you\u2019re in your feels, but a lot of time we\u2019re just having fun and taking the piss.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve got a good thing going on, me and Nina. We love it, we just have so much fun together. There\u2019s no pressure, there\u2019s no stress. We\u2019re like ‘let\u2019s write because we love music, writing and performing.’ A few people heard this song when I originally wrote it and said ‘you can\u2019t start a song like that,’ and I was like, ‘why can\u2019t I?'”<\/p>\n

Then comes the track’s belter of a chorus. Thematically, it’s a 2026 take on\u00a0Bruno Mars<\/a>‘s The Lazy Song<\/a>. An anti-girlboss anthem.<\/p>\n

“I can be a mother, I can be your wife, I can be a modern woman almost all the time. Tell me, is it a crime when I get stressed, I just wanna be your passenger princess?<\/p>\n

“I can have a baby, run a business too, got everybody saying ‘wow, look at you!’ But it’s tough sometimes when I get stressed, I just wanna be your passenger princess.”<\/p>\n

“In this day and age, we\u2019re all very much in the headspace of having to be strong, independent \u2013 \u2018I have to go out, I have to graft, I have to be powerful,'” Perrie explains. “That\u2019s great, but at the same time you\u2019re allowed to be vulnerable. You\u2019re allowed to want to do nothing, to chill and let somebody else take care of you.<\/p>\n

“People might be like “that\u2019s so old and traditional,” and I\u2019m not “no it\u2019s not, I just don\u2019t want to take the bins out all the f*cking time! I want to be looked after by Alex! Like yeah, I\u2019m a badass \u2013 I can do everything, have a career, bring up humans, run a brand, all these different things \u2013 but I want to do nothing sometimes, and that\u2019s okay.”<\/p>\n
