Fontaines D.C.<\/a>\u2018s Carlos O\u2019Connell and Tom Coll have produced the upcoming second album for French indie band Film Noir \u2013 check out the double single \u2018VIENS TIENS TOI\u2019 \/ \u2018VEGITA\u2019 below.<\/p>\n

The guitarist and drummer from the Dublin group recorded with Film Noir at La Frette Studios near Paris \u2013 the same space Arctic Monkeys<\/a> made their latest two LPs, \u2018Tranquillity Base\u2026\u2019<\/a> and \u2018The Car\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell is in a relationship with Film Noir singer Jos\u00e9phine de La Baume, who is also an actor, director and model. The couple have two children together, the first of whom inspired Fontaines\u2019 2025 single \u2018It\u2019s Amazing To Be Young\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn early 2020 I walked into a gig in a club in Paris and was introduced to a band called Film Noir,\u201d O\u2019Connell wrote on social media to announce his involvement with the forthcoming album. \u201cI fell in love with the singer, I went on to make babies with her to to fall in love twice again with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cA little while back myself, [Coll] and @filmnoirmusic<\/a> went to La Frette and recorded their upcoming record.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician added: \u201cProducing this record was one of the most beautiful experiences I\u2019ve had. Blessed to have so many. This album means the world to me & I hope it\u2019ll mean something to many more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Film Noir have previewed the as-yet-untitled LP with two singles, \u2018VIENS TIENS TOI\u2019 and \u2018VEGITA\u2019. Both songs were produced by O\u2019Connell, with Coll contributing drums. O\u2019Connell was on mixing duties for \u2018VEGITA\u2019, too.<\/p>\n

\u2018VIENS TIENS TOI\u2019 begins with a breezy, acoustic intro, before introducing dreamy, shoegaze-inspired elements. \u2018VEGITA\u2019, meanwhile, carries a more upbeat, surfy style beneath de La Baume\u2019s ethereal vocals.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Film Noir have shared a behind-the-scenes video documenting the recording process for their second full-length effort (watch below). A release date is not yet known.<\/p>\n

In spring 2020, O\u2019Connell teamed up with Film Noir for a cover<\/a> of\u00a0Lee Hazlewood\u2019s song \u2018For A Day Like Today\u2019 (via LiveForever<\/a>). Upon the song\u2019s release, the band called the guitarist \u201ca great supporter of the European rock scene and a common friend\u201d.<\/p>\n

Film Noir released their debut EP, \u2018Vertiges (Men Of Glory)\u2019,\u00a0in 2019, with follow-up \u2018Tendrement\u2019 arriving the following year. They then dropped their debut full-length album, \u2018Palpitant\u2019, in 2022.<\/p>\n

In 2011, Jos\u00e9phine de La Baume appeared as Marie in the 2011 film adaptation of One Day, starring Anne Hathaway. Her other acting credits include Apple TV\u2019s The New Look and Polish period movie Chopin, a Sonata in Paris.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell\u2019s also produced the 2026 self-titled debut album<\/a> for Dead Dads Club<\/a> \u2013 the new band from former\u00a0Palma Violets<\/a> frontman Chilli Jesson. This too was made at La Frette Studios.<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME in January<\/a>, O\u2019Connell said the French recording space \u201cfeels like a home\u201d. He added: \u201cThere\u2019s nothing about it that feels corporate or constrained by time. My mind goes into this creative mode in which I can hear things in a certain way, and it doesn\u2019t stop until I leave the building.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesson told us: \u201cIt was really organic. Carlos, on one of the tours we were on together, was working on a Film Noir album, and he was always mixing it and playing around with sounds. He\u2019d just come out of the studio at La Frette and to see that process \u2013 with the production \u2013 I was like, \u2018Holy shit.\u2019 I\u2019d been in a world where it was all on the computer, and then suddenly he\u2019s talking about a fucking bass drum that\u2019s two metres long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fontaines D.C. recently worked on the soundtrack to\u00a0Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man<\/a>. Elsewhere, they contributed to the star-studded \u2018Help(2)\u2019 charity record<\/a> in aid of War Child.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Romance\u2019<\/a> band are set to play their first shows in almost a year this summer with three headline dates in Spain<\/a>, ahead of their debut bill-topping slots at Reading & Leeds 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their itinerary for this year also includes a top slot at Electric Picnic in Ireland<\/a>, as well as some European and US festivals such as Frequency, La Route du Rock and Shaky Knees.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell told\u00a0NME about progress on new Fontaines material<\/a> at the start of this year. \u201cWe\u2019ve been writing, it\u2019s been fun,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe\u2019re at [Reading & Leeds] and there are a couple of shows before that. I think if the music is there, it could get busy.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if any new tunes could make their way onto the R&L setlists, O\u2019Connell replied: \u201cI\u2019d say so. If there is stuff written, then I would say so, yeah. That\u2019s what we used to do all the time, play the new stuff live \u2013 songs that weren\u2019t even finished. It\u2019s a good way to test the songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell was pressed on whether any of the visual elements of the \u2018Romance\u2019 tour could remain for Fontaines\u2019 2026 dates. \u201cI think \u2018Romance\u2019 was so intense in every [way]\u2026 the visual, the production, the setlist\u2026 It wasn\u2019t just about the music,\u201d he told NME.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s almost a bit of the identity of the band now, but I guess that\u2019s the decision to make. Does that become the identity of the band, or actually, it\u2019s just a phase and you reinvent it? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell continued: \u201cI personally like the idea of revisiting some old stuff at Reading & Leeds, making the setlist maybe a bit more \u2018Dogrel\u2019<\/a>-heavy. I\u2019m excited about that. I\u2019ve been listening to music like that much more. This morning I was listening to\u00a0Sonic Youth<\/a>. I want to go [in] that direction, but we\u2019ll see, because anything could happen now \u2013 literally anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
