The Carer\u2019s Support Grant is paid to carers once a year by the Department of Social Protection (DSP). It used to be called the Respite Care Grant.The grant is a \u20ac2,000 social welfare payment called the Carer’s Support Grant. It is scheduled to be paid in June 2026.You can use the grant in whatever way you like. You can use it to pay for respite care, but you don’t have to.The payment is issued annually on the first Thursday of June. For 2026, this date is set for June 4.Recipients of Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, and Domiciliary Care Allowance will receive the grant automatically. These three specific groups do not need to apply separately for the payment, reports Dublin Live<\/a>.For those not receiving other payments, general eligibility requires the carer to be at least 16 years old and a resident of Ireland. They must also provide full-time care for at least six months to qualify, and that period must include the first Thursday in June.You are also required to live with the person you are caring for, unless you meet specific conditions, for example, the person must be able to contact you quickly and directly if you do not live together.However, you will not qualify if you work more than 18.5 hours per week, whether in employment or self-employment.The same limit applies if you are enrolled in education or training for more than 18.5 hours per week, and you are also ineligible if you are receiving Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance or Jobseeker\u2019s Benefit, signing on for credited contributions.If your baby or child is hospitalised or in another institution for medical treatment, you might be eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant. To receive the grant, your baby or child must qualify for Domiciliary Care Allowance.If you are caring for more than one person, a grant is paid for each person you care for.People who do not receive the grant automatically must complete a CSG1 application form. This form can be found and submitted at their local Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office.The application window for the 2026 grant is now open.
