The event took place last night (May 30) in London\u2019s Exmouth Market, only hours after Charli announced its details on her b.sides Instagram account, describing it as a \u201clive talk about process and making things\u201d.<\/p>\n

It comes off the back of a similar event in New York earlier this month<\/a>, also dubbed \u2018In Conversation\u2019, which featured an intimate Q&A session with fans about her creative process and songwriting.<\/p>\n

Following the talk, she shared she\u2019d be playing a DJ set with Daniel. \u201cFirst come, first serve (might hide some new music in the set),\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the event was announced, a queue began to form outside Coin Laundry \u2013 the 200-capacity pub that would hold the afterparty \u2013 with many fans later listening to the set from the street.<\/p>\n

At the event, which was moderated by journalist Shaad D\u2019Souza, Charli explained why she wanted to host \u2018In Conversation\u2019 discussions for her fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeorge and I often talk about how we feel so lucky that we get to do what we do for a real job; it feels so ridiculous. And, on top of that, we feel so lucky that we have so many friends who are also in some ways creating \u2013 whether that be also making music or whether it be, I don\u2019t know, designing chairs, or even just drawing for a hobby.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then went on to address her fans directly, saying: \u201cYou have a lot of opinions, and you\u2019re also really funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m stalking you all on Twitter, which you all know I do, I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, this is like talking to my friends\u2019. Like, you guys get it. You have interesting takes and smart takes, so I kind of wanted to bring it IRL.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, when asked if she thinks the ability to make art is an \u201cinnate\u201d thing only bestowed on some people, Charli said: \u201cI think anyone can make art, but I think you have to retain a childlike quality to yourself, which I think a lot of people lose out of circumstance.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also praised Daniel for his \u201cpatience\u201d in the studio, saying, \u201cYou can deal with me over your shoulder being like, \u2018What if we do this edit\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Afterwards, she headed to the afterparty, where she played snippets of new music, older fan favourites, and some indie rock remixes.<\/p>\n

One new song she teased was mixed with Daft Punk<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Rock\u2019n Roll\u2019, which included the lyrics: \u201cI used to lick cream off strawberries in the summer\/Maybe I fucked your dad,\u201d\u00a0while another, \u2018Card Declined\u2019, was played with her earlier Boiler Room remix of \u2018Mean Girls\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, she also teased Daniels by playing The 1975\u2019s breakout hit \u2018Chocolate\u2019, which prompted him to hide under the table.<\/p>\n

Later, she played cult favourites, \u2018Roll With Me\u2019, \u2018Pink Diamond\u2019 and \u2018Anthems\u2019.<\/p>\n

It comes after Charli shared \u2018Playboy Bunny<\/a>\u2018, the \u201cflip side\u201d to her latest single, the gritty, sassy \u2018SS26\u2019<\/a>. The track is in keeping with her new policy of returning to the traditional pre-streaming system of A-sides and B-sides.<\/p>\n

Like the previous single \u2018Rock Music<\/a>\u2019 and its B-side \u2018I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day And Night<\/a>\u2019, the assumption is that \u2018SS26\u2019 will end up on Charli\u2019s upcoming new album, but \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019 will not, instead being exclusive to the vinyl\u00a07\u201d single and via her \u201cb.sides\u201d Instagram account.<\/p>\n

Explaining the release strategy in a video on that account, Charli said: \u201cThe B-sides are sort of like coupled with some of the songs that are coming out ahead of the album. The reason that they\u2019re paired together, these two songs, are because, in ways, they\u2019re totally opposite from each other, and that is find of the main point of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Charli\u2019s team\u00a0confirmed that she was finishing work on her new album<\/a>, and shortly afterwards,\u00a0in an interview with\u00a0British Vogue, the lyric \u201cI think the dance floor is dead, so now we\u2019re making rock music\u201d<\/a>\u00a0was previewed. It prompted speculation that the album would take a heavier direction, though\u00a0Charli later clarified<\/a>, \u201cI never said I was making a rock album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Rock Music\u2019 then arrived alongside a grungy music video, which saw her enlist collaborators\u00a0A.G. Cook<\/a>, Finn Keane (formerly known as\u00a0Easyfun) and her husband,\u00a0The 1975<\/a>\u2018s George Daniel, as her rock band.<\/p>\n

All four new songs have seen Charli\u00a0depart\u00a0from the club atmosphere of the 2024 cultural phenomenon that was \u2018Brat<\/a>\u2019, and they follow on from\u00a0her soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell\u2019s Wuthering\u00a0Heights<\/a>, released in February.<\/p>\n

As well as working on that soundtrack, the \u2018360\u2019 singer also\u00a0penned music for the A24 film\u00a0Mother Mary<\/a>,\u00a0starring\u00a0Anne Hathaway<\/a>, starred in her own\u00a0mockumentary\u00a0The Moment<\/a>, took on a role in the\u00a0new romance\u00a0Erupcja<\/a>, and locked in a role in fantasy\u00a0100 Nights Of Hero.<\/p>\n

She also played a comedic version of herself in the TV show\u00a0Overcompensating<\/a>, and was recently\u00a0cast alongside\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0star Milly Alcock in a new horror film<\/a>\u00a0directed by Takashi Miike.<\/p>\n
