It\u2019s (almost) June 2026, and you don\u2019t need to look to Netflix\u2019s release calendar<\/a> to know it\u2019s rough out there. The average cost for a gallon of gasoline is $4.55. People are booing anyone who dares to praise AI, and commencement speakers<\/a> just keep preaching its nonexistent virtues. The President is trying to create a slush fund<\/a> worth half as much as the San Diego Padres<\/a>, and \u201cThe Late Show,\u201d<\/a> a 33-year old television institution, is now dunzo. <\/p>\n

If all that sounds like old news, I apologize; I\u2019m writing this month\u2019s column a week early, in the hopes of hiding from all my troubles at the ATX TV Festival<\/a>. But when I get back \u2014 and when all of you, dear readers, start looking for your own temporary escapes \u2014 Netflix won\u2019t provide much of a distraction. The June lineup is paltry, especially when compared to recent months. You might need a third screen for your second screen if you really want to keep reality from creeping in.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s on deck? The top choice is \u201cI Will Find You,\u201d the latest in a long line of Harlan Coben adaptations, which are typically juicy, easy-to-watch fare. This one features an above-average cast, including Britt Lower, Sam Worthington, Milo Ventimiglia, Logan Browning, and Jonathan Tucker, so here\u2019s hoping the storytelling gets a glow-up to match. <\/p>\n

Other notable Netflix originals include the second season of \u201cAvatar: The Last Airbender\u201d (although the first season was met with largely negative reviews); \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders\u201d Season 3 (which has seen surprisingly strong reviews over its first two seasons); and \u201cSesame Street,\u201d which remains a staple of children\u2019s programming, no matter what platform<\/a> provides the new episodes. <\/p>\n

But acquisitions once again offer better options. \u201cShrill,\u201d<\/a> an Emmy-nominated Hulu original series, got picked up for its Netflix debut (All three seasons will be available). \u201cBeavis and Butt-Head\u201d is making the leap from Paramount+ (and Comedy Central) to drop 90 episodes, new and old, on Netflix. Then there\u2019s the network TV: five seasons of \u201cHawaii Five-O,\u201d five seasons of \u201cThe Last Ship,\u201d and Season 22, specifically, of \u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Are any of those thrilling enough to hold the entirety of your attention? Maybe not, but it\u2019s still better than watching 24-hour news. So choose wisely. (Or, you know, spend your streaming subscription dollars on a different service!)<\/p>\n

\t\u2018I Will Find You\u2019<\/p>\n

Best Reason to Watch: Harlan Coben has Coben-ed the market when it comes to pulpy TV adaptations of his own novels. Since \u201cSafe\u201d made waves in 2018<\/a>, the following books have all been turned into original series: \u201cThe Stranger,\u201d \u201cThe Woods,\u201d \u201cThe Innocent,\u201d \u201cGone for Good,\u201d \u201cStay Close,\u201d \u201cHold Tight,\u201d \u201cShelter,\u201d \u201cFool Me Once,\u201d \u201cMissing You,\u201d \u201cCaught,\u201d and \u201cRun Away\u201d\u00a0\u2014 and that doesn\u2019t include a 2021 audioplay \u201cMow mi Win\u201d as well as two series he created without writing a book first (\u201cLazarus\u201d and \u201cFinal Twist\u201d). If you liked any of those, then \u201cI Will Find You\u201d is likely right up your alley. But even if you\u2019ve never heard of those shows (or don\u2019t remember watching them, given the generic titles and rinse-and-repeat formulas), the latest adaptation has a few extra enticements: Britt Lower is an Emmy winner, Milo Ventimiglia is a fan-favorite, Logan Browning freaking rules, and Jonathan Tucker<\/a> is your favorite character actor\u2019s favorite character actor (under 45 division). Maybe Coben is leveling up?<\/p>\n

\t\u2018Shrill\u2019 Seasons 1-3<\/p>\n

Best Reason to Watch: Aidy Bryant. There\u2019s actually a lot to like about \u201cShrill,\u201d Hulu\u2019s adaptation of Lindy West\u2019s memoir. (And yes, it\u2019s still super weird that a Hulu original is streaming on Netflix\u00a0\u2014 The Streaming Wars: Part 1 are over!) Lolly Adefope\u2019s American breakout is oh so obvious in her jubilant performance, and the series\u2019 inherent compassion<\/a> is catchy. But Bryant\u2019s Emmy-nominated turn is fantastic. Give it a go.<\/p>\n

\t\u2018Beavis and Butt-Head\u2019<\/p>\n

Honestly, the idea of sampling a few episodes from the classic series before leaping ahead to the new seasons sounds pretty fun. The Mike Judge renaissance is fully underway<\/a>, what with \u201cKing of the Hill\u201d back (and great<\/a>) and another \u201cBeavis and Butt-Head\u201d season on the way \u2014 so why not savor it?<\/p>\n
