{"id":478409,"date":"2026-06-02T02:00:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T02:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/478409\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T02:00:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T02:00:11","slug":"fianna-fail-td-malcolm-byrne-arrested-on-suspicion-of-drink-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/478409\/","title":{"rendered":"Fianna F\u00e1il TD Malcolm Byrne arrested on suspicion of drink driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/fianna-f%C3%A1il_topic-5047238.html\">Fianna F\u00e1il<\/a> will consider \u201cany developments\u201d in relation to a party TD arrested on suspicion of drink driving in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>Malcolm Byrne was stopped by garda\u00ed in Dublin City centre at around 5am on Thursday morning, where he was asked to take a breathalyser test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">When this failed test came back, the Wicklow-Wexford TD opted to go to a nearby Garda station to provide a urine sample. It is understood the results of this sample have yet to come back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In a statement, Mr Byrne confirmed that he had been travelling to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/dublin-airport_topic-5071448.html\">Dublin Airport<\/a>, when he stopped at a mandatory Garda checkpoint in Dublin city centre, close to his hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;I am cooperating fully with An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na.
