{"id":479510,"date":"2026-06-02T17:25:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T17:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/479510\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T17:25:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T17:25:17","slug":"plans-lodged-for-north-dublin-power-plant-near-m50-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/479510\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans lodged for north Dublin power plant near M50 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Kilshane Energy has lodged plans for a 680MW power plant for a site at Kilshane 2km from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/m50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/m50\/\">M50<\/a> in north <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A planning report by JSA Planning lodged with the application notes that the \u201cflexible peaking plant\u201d  is \u201cto provide a reliable source of backup generation for operating in times of high electricity demand and low renewable electricity supply\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">JSA Planning says \u201cthese peaking plants are crucial to avoid power outages and ensuring the security of electricity supply in a grid with increased renewable sources of energy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Kilshane Energy has already secured permission for its \u20ac250 million phase one of the scheme. It involves a 293MW open cycle gas turbine plant that is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"> The energy company\u2019s plans comprise gas turbine power generation stations, with an output of up to 340MW each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Kilshane Energy is part of the \u00adNorthern Ireland-based and family-owned LCC Group. Its businesses include Go Power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Founded by Michael Loughran, LCC Group recorded pretax profits of \u00a335.7 million on revenues of \u00a31.11 billion in the 12 months to the end of March 2025 and paid out dividends of \u00a389.76 million during that year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Kilshane Energy owns a 27-hectare (67-acre) site  Dublin 11.
