CMAT has invited Olivia Rodrigo for “pints” after the American singer covered her song When A Good Man Cries during a live session on BBC Radio One.<\/p>\n

The Irish singer, who played St. Anne’s Park in Dublin last Saturday night, also joked of Rodrigo\u2019s version, “she sang it better than me so now I\u2019m toast.”<\/p>\n

Rodrigo (23) is due to release her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, later this month and appeared on BBC Radio One\u2019s Live Lounge on Tuesday, where she said covering When A Good Man Cries had been “so much fun”.<\/p>\n

“I think that song is epic, and me and my dad had so much fun putting it together too,” she added. “It\u2019s kind of twangy and country, and the lyrics are super, super awesome and unique.”<\/p>\n

The Drivers License hitmaker previously revealed her love for Irish acts when she covered Sin\u00e9ad O’Connor’s version of Prince song Nothing Compares 2 U at her sold-out Fairview Park gig in 2022, and Fontaines D.C.’s I Love You at her Marlay Park gig last summer.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo also admitted she was “a little out of my element” when she attended a rave with Charli xcx.<\/p>\n

Asked if there are any “pop girlies” in the music industry who she feels supported by, she singled out Charli xcx, saying she is “wonderful and lovely, and couldn\u2019t be more supportive.”<\/p>\n

Rodrigo described the 33-year-old British singer – real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison – as a “girl\u2019s girl”, before recounting a recent night out they had together.<\/p>\n

“I actually went to a rave with her. I don\u2019t even know if it\u2019s a rave,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m not like a party girl, she\u2019s the ultimate party girl, obviously.<\/p>\n

“I was a little out of my element, but I had the best time, and she was very lovely.”<\/p>\n

Rodrigo was asked about having English rock bands Wolf Alice and The Last Dinner Party supporting her on tour, and she said she had personally selected them.<\/p>\n

“I think that they\u2019re amazing, and all of them are kind of my friends too,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I think they\u2019re really incredible girls, and I just love surrounding myself with musicians who inspire me, and all of those artists totally inspire me and push me to want to be better.”<\/p>\n

Speaking about her love for London, she praised the UK\u2019s “amazing pub culture” – which she said she misses when not in the country – and added she is also a fan of the parks and “swimming in ponds.”<\/p>\n

Speaking on Radio One, the singer said she felt “really lucky that I get to do what I do” and that she “couldn\u2019t comprehend” how many people want to come to her shows.<\/p>\n

“I just love writing songs, and writing music helps me feel less alone, and so the fact that it maybe can make someone else that I\u2019ve never met feel less alone is just a really beautiful feeling, and that\u2019s why music\u2019s so magical,” she said.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo released her debut album Sour in 2021 and it won the best pop vocal album and best new artist Grammy in 2022. Her second album Guts was released in 2023.<\/p>\n
