{"id":480037,"date":"2026-06-03T00:05:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/480037\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T00:05:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:05:12","slug":"rescue-operation-under-way-after-boat-sinks-in-carlingford-lough-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/480037\/","title":{"rendered":"Rescue operation under way after boat sinks in Carlingford Lough \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A rescue operation is under way after a fishing boat with two people on board sank in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlingford-lough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlingford-lough\/\">Carlingford Lough<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Department of Transport said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-coast-guard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-coast-guard\">Coast Guard<\/a> received a report the vessel was in trouble near Greencastle Point, Co <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/down\/\">Down<\/a>, shortly after 12.30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One person was recovered from the vessel by a local boat and transferred to the care of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/health-service-executive-hse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/health-service-executive-hse\/\">HSE<\/a> paramedics at Greenore harbour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A search was ongoing to recover a second person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An RNLI lifeboat from Kilkeel and the Greenore Irish Coast Guard boat were sent, along with Coastguard rescue teams from Newcastle and Kilkeel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Coast Guard\u2019s Rescue 116 helicopter took part in the search and a Royal Navy helicopter assisted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">Garda\u00ed<\/a> said they were also on the scene.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Members of the Coast Guard and a Garda during the rescue operation.
