\u201cSouth Park<\/a>\u201d creators Matt Stone<\/a> and Trey Parker<\/a> admitted during a recent pre-taped appearance for the 19th Television Academy Honors that their foul-mouthed show has always served as America\u2019s jester, only for President Donald Trump<\/a> to become \u201cthe joker\u201d himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor 30 years, you\u2019ve always had some group trying to tell you what you can and can\u2019t say, and that group has changed,\u201d said Parker<\/a>. \u201cThat group\u2019s been liberal. That group\u2019s been Republican. We\u2019ve always known that our job was, we\u2019re supposed to be the joker.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cYou need someone just making fun of things. It\u2019s a great thing to be able to be. And unfortunately, right now, we have a president who thinks his job is to be the joker.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Peabody Award-winning satirists<\/a> have targeted virtually every demographic in the book with their long-running animated series. Trump first appeared in 2001<\/a> as a then-well-known businessman; they brought him back last year to mock his presidency<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so that\u2019s why we dove into the [27th] season and actually put Trump in there and Jesus and started talking about Christian nationalism and all that stuff,\u201d said Stone. \u201cBecause we had to let people know, better or worse, if you like it or you don\u2019t, it\u2019s like, this is us, OK?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Park\u201d returned in 2025 after a two-year hiatus with one of its most controversial premieres<\/a>, showing Trump cavorting in bed with Saddam Hussein and Satan \u2014 and ending with a fake campaign ad showing a naked, deep-faked Trump crawling through the desert<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s premiere prompted the real-life White House to respond with\u00a0a statement,<\/a>\u00a0and MAGA supporters\u00a0appeared affronted.<\/a>\u00a0However, Stone and Parker haven\u2019t\u00a0allowed intimidation<\/a>\u00a0to influence their creative output.<\/p>\n

Parker did recall thinking during his Television Academy Honors acceptance speech<\/a> that their recent episodes would \u201creally piss some people off,\u201d and there have always been groups \u201ctelling you what you can and can\u2019t say \u2014 now that group has a military.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier in the broadcast, he summed up what it takes to be in his line of work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re doing this kind of stuff, you have to be fearless,\u201d said Parker<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to be afraid of anyone. And if we\u2019re going to do something, we\u2019re going to say, we\u2019re going to do what\u2019s funniest, do what\u2019s best, and we\u2019re just going to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He concluded, \u201cAnd if they want to kick us out of town, our bags are packed. It\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n
