Peaky Blinders fans can now see first-look images of Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton on location for the ’50s-set sequel of Steven Knight’s iconic gritty crime drama.

Set in early 1950s Birmingham, this latest instalment has been classed in the synopsis as a “new era of Peaky Blinders”. It reveals that the sequel will take place a decade after WWII and will see the “race to rebuild Birmingham [become] a brutal contest of mythical dimensions.”

The continuation is set after the events of The Immortal Man and sees Heaton become the latest person to take on the role of Charles Shelby, youngest son of Tommy and Grace Shelby.

“Having fought a violent war, much of it behind enemy lines, Charles Shelby is now embracing normality,” states the logline. It continues: “[Charles] hasn’t seen his half-brother Duke (Jamie Bell) in years. Charles severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang, and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But can you ever escape your own blood?”

The latest pictures suggest not as Heaton’s Charles seems to be thrown into an intensely dramatic situation as he comes to the rescue of his wife, played by Lucy Karczewski. The shots show Heaton in action racing in the rain as well as engaging in some violence and seemingly throwing a punch, hinting that he may be a little more like his father than he would like to admit.

Giving a bit more context the logline continues: “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby.”

Speaking on the upcoming series, Knight said in a BBC press release: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early ’50s.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”
