\n\tQuentin Tarantino<\/a> is not a fan of the majority of movies coming out of Hollywood these days. Writing for Sight & Sound magazine, the Oscar winner revealed that \u201cit\u2019s almost impossible\u201d for him these days to watch a new movie and not pick it \u201cto death.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFlaws, implausibilities, audience pandering, miscast performers or just plain stupid shit usually torpedoes every new movie coming out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood,\u201d the director explained. \u201cThese days, the entire concept of what is a movie is more inclined to inspire contempt in me than generosity. Which is fair enough, because by comparison the movies of the last six years make the 80s seem like the 30s.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve seen movies I liked since then \u2013 \u2018West Side Story\u2019 (2021); \u2018Horizon: An American Saga\u2019 Chapter 1 and 2 (both 2024), a few others, but nothing that really held me in its grip and swept me away to the magical land of enjoyment that I use to visit regularly and was the reason I loved movies above all other artforms. These days I\u2019d rather read a book,\u201d Tarantino added.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut there is one movie that captured Tarantino\u2019s attention recently, and it\u2019s none other than \u201cThe Rip<\/a>.\u201d The Netflix crime drama, directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Ben Affleck<\/a> and Matt Damon<\/a>, launched on the streamer in January and centers on two law enforcement officers in the Miami-Dade Police Department who discover corruption in their ranks linked to $20 million of cartel cash. The cast also featured Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle and Kyle Chandler.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA suspenseful new movie has come out that did grab me and held me for its entire duration,\u201d Tarantino wrote about the movie. \u201cThe film is an exciting cop thriller with a novel premise that manages to deliver the goods in really clever ways. The whole package worked for me: Carnahan\u2019s direction, the splendid cast, the look of the film (courtesy of cinematographer Juan Miguel Azpiroz) \u2013 but the real powerhouse component of this splendid collection is the sensational screenplay by Carnahan and Michael McGrale.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTarantino is currently working on a play, \u201cThe Popinjay Cavalier,\u201d\u00a0which is set to world premiere on London\u2019s West End in 2027. The script is described as a \u201cswashbuckling comedy\u201d\u00a0set in 1930s Europe. As for Tarantino\u2019s film career, the director has not yet announced what movie intends to make his 10th and final feature before heading into retirement from the medium.<\/p>\n
