Their progress reflects a deep commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the values that underpin our Union.

“There is renewed momentum and unity in the European Union, and Ireland is ambitious to play its role as a member state that formed part of the first enlargement and as incoming Presidency of the Council,” she said.

Launched as a powerful statement days after Russia’s 2022 invasion, Ukraine’s bid for EU membership had since stuttered in the face of Hungarian opposition.

Mr Magyar underlined that Hungary does not support a fast-track procedure for Ukraine to join the EU.

He also said the country would hold a referendum on Ukraine’s membership should it “succeed in closing all 33 accession chapters within the next 10 to 15 years.”

The European Union agreed to move Ukraine and Moldova to the next stage in their membership bids, as…

[3
42,43,40,38,41,39
post-481763","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headlines","tag-headlines","tag-news","tag-top-news","tag-top-stories","tag-topnews","tag-topstories
["GET
