Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a> has just received the transfer update he won’t want to hear after Real Madrid agreed a deal to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.<\/p>\n

Sky Sports<\/a> claim the Dutch international has completed his medical at Los Blancos, and will sign a four-year deal with the La Liga giants.<\/p>\n

Real triggered a \u00a317.3m clause in Dumfries’ Inter Milan contract and the 30-year-old is closing in on a move to Spain.<\/p>\n

It’s a blow for Alexander-Arnold who was expected to make the right-back slot at the Bernabeu his own following his move from the Reds.<\/p>\n

Dani Carvahal has been a mainstay at right-back for Real during recent years, but his departure had opened the door for the former Liverpool full-back.<\/p>\n

Alexander-Arnold has struggled with both injuries and form since his move to Los Blancos, and will now have further competition for his place.<\/p>\n

It’s another setback for the 27-year-old, who was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.<\/p>\n

There are also no Reds stars in the England squad for the first time in four decades.<\/p>\n

“I’m very confident in the group that we chose,” Tuchel said when explaining his 26-man squad for the tournament. “Very difficult decisions and painful conversations; difficult for the players and to explain the decisions.<\/p>\n

“But what we try to achieve, we tried to nominate a balanced squad. We have to leave some extraordinary talents at home.<\/p>\n

“If we pick these names, then other big names would have been left out and then we would talk about those names.”<\/p>\n
