Steven Spielberg has said that if he could speak to aliens, he would ask them if they have seen his award-winning 1982 film E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning filmmaker, 79, is hailed as one of the most influential directors in Hollywood and is known for his sci-fi movies including E.T., Jurassic Park (1993) and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977).<\/p>\n

His upcoming film Disclosure Day sees him revisit the genre, and stars Emily Blunt as a meteorologist who experiences a mysterious alien encounter during a live broadcast.<\/p>\n

The sci-fi thriller also stars Colin Firth and Colman Domingo, as well as Josh O\u2019Connor \u2013 who plays a tech whiz who is attempting to expose classified government files about extra-terrestrial life to the public.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Press Association at the UK premiere of the film, Spielberg was asked why he is drawn to the narrative of aliens and the possible existence of unknown life forms.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWell, just there\u2019s more reality now to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cClose Encounters was a beautiful communion movie \u2013 a movie that, at the end, is still a secret from the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spielberg continued:\u00a0\u201c(Disclosure Day) is much more about the truth and the brave people that want to expose the truth to the world, and the forces that are marshalled to stop that truth from being told.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what gives the film its pulse, it gives it its adrenaline \u2013 but also it\u2019s about the humanity of the characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThis is a movie about the realities of what people feel is happening right now and today with so many people coming forward, whistleblowers and people in government saying, \u2018This is real\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy movie is a story. My movie is not a documentary about what\u2019s happening, it is a drama.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of comedy in it, believe it or not, but it\u2019s also going to really reach into your hearts and touch you.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked what he would say to aliens if they landed tonight, Spielberg joked he would ask: \u201cHave you seen E.T.?\u201d<\/p>\n

The star-studded premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square in London saw the director joined by the stars of the film, including Blunt, who told PA that Spielberg\u2019s belief in aliens caused her to become \u201cintoxicated\u201d by the idea.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-nominated actress, 43, said: \u201cI think we all went down a rabbit hole, kind of reading or watching anything we could to do with extra-terrestrial life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of wondered then why I hadn\u2019t gone down the rabbit hole before, because I loved it so much.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt became mathematically impossible for us to imagine that we are alone in the universe, so it became quite exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colin Firth, who stars as the nefarious head of a corporation helping to conceal the secret of aliens, agreed that Spielberg\u2019s passion \u201cimpacted the energy on set\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Bridget Jones star told PA: \u201cAfter a few minutes of talking to him, I\u00a0started to share (his belief).<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to know what he wants to know. I want to communicate the same things.
