McIlroy and partner Shane Lowry heard much of the abuse sent Europe\u2019s way, repeatedly clashing with fans on their way to a win in their match with Thomas and Cameron Young.<\/p>\n
McIlroy described it as a \u201creally challenging day\u201d while Lowry seemed to relish the atmosphere.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was intense. It was like something I\u2019ve never experienced,\u201d he said. \u201cBut this is what I live for. This is it. This is, like, honestly, the reason I get up in the morning, for stuff like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
McIlroy said: \u201cPeople can be their own judge of whether they took it too far or not. I\u2019m just proud of us for being able to win today with what we had to go through.\u201d<\/p>\n
The clashes were not only with the crowd. Bryson DeChambeau screamed in the face of Tommy Fleetwood after his partner Justin Rose had complained about DeChambeau\u2019s caddy Greg Bodine walking across the line of his putt \u2013 with players and caddies getting involved in the spat.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was ready to hit my putt,\u201d Rose said. \u201cI didn\u2019t feel like that space was being honoured. I made my feelings known. Asked him to move.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe not as politely as I could have done, but in the scenario, it\u2019s coming down the stretch, we both have a lot on our minds and it\u2019s intense out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ultimately, Europe shut out the noise to win both sessions convincingly on Saturday and open up a commanding 11.5-4-5 lead.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something we prepared for and we can see, I think, how well they have dealt with it,\u201d Donald said.<\/p>\n

US captain Keegan Bradley reacted angrily to suggestions that he or his players might have been responsible for some of the more unsavoury aspects of crowd behaviour.<\/p>\n
Bradley has notably been trying to rally fans throughout the week and ran down the 18th fairway with a giant US flag on the final practice day.<\/p>\n
Collin Morikawa, meanwhile, said he hoped fans would bring \u201cabsolute chaos\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cRyder Cups are wild I don\u2019t appreciate those words that you just said,\u201d retorted Bradley in a press conference. \u201cI know what you\u2019re trying to do.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ryder Cup is full of passionate fans, they\u2019re full of passionate players.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat isn\u2019t right. I thought the fans were passionate. I wasn\u2019t at Rome but I heard a lot of stories that Rome was pretty violent as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the fans of New York, from what I have seen, have been pretty good.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re always going to have a few people that cross the line and that\u2019s unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Sunday Rose will head out first against Young, with Tommy Fleetwood \u2013 with four victories under his belt already this week \u2013 then taking on Thomas.<\/p>\n
In-form Matt Fitzpatrick faces Bryson DeChambeau before a tasty clash between McIlroy and out-of-sorts world number one Scottie Scheffler, who has lost all four of his matches.<\/p>\n
Ludvig Aberg and Jon Rahm fill out the top six against Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele respectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have 12 very good players,\u201d said Donald.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn singles you have to go a little bit with gut instincts. We obviously have a big lead. So we have to think about that, and we imagine that the US are going to come out pretty strong.<\/p>\n
