Eva Longoria<\/a> is looking sensational at 51, but there\u2019s a lot of work and life juggling behind those steely triceps. She\u2019s a true multi-hyphenate powerhouse, after all \u2013 not \u2018just\u2019 an actress but also a producer, director, philanthropist and businesswoman. Factor in her duties as devoted mother to eight-year-old son Santiago, and you\u2019d forgive Eva if she was deprioritising workouts<\/a> a little in her sixth decade. But no, not a bit of it.<\/p>\n

The Desperate Housewives icon<\/a> has hit upon a solution that allows her to carve out time for both her body and mind, although it\u2019s not for the weak-willed. \u2018I wake up and work out at 5am with my trainer,\u2019 she tells GH, dialling in from the Cannes Film Festival<\/a>, on \u2018Worth It\u2019 brand ambassador duties with L\u2019Or\u00e9al Paris<\/a>. \u2018I do it six days a week, every week.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018My workouts are really my form of meditation. It\u2019s my therapeutic hour,\u2019 she says. At 51, her goals have changed from purely aesthetic to sweating with a side-serve of self-care. \u2018Before, it was like, \u201cI want abs<\/a>!\u2019 and now I need it for my clarity,\u2019 has become her stance.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a true power hour, she says, and she makes every minute count. \u2018We do strength training, with weights. It\u2019s heavy weights. Heavy, heavy weights with my trainer. After 50 we have to do resistance exercise, so it\u2019s not easy.\u2019 <\/p>\n

Eva\u2019s workout regime keeps her happy and grounded as well as toned <\/p>\n

In fact, her idea of taking it steady would be most people\u2019s idea of a full workout. \u2018I rarely do cardio these days unless it’s bouncing. I go on the rebounder, and that’s just so fun, but I only do that once or twice a week. The rest of the week is heavy weight training.\u2019<\/p>\n

Once she\u2019s done with her \u2018therapy\u2019 hour of heaving kettlebells, hauling cable and pumping iron, she keeps the calm feeling going with a dedicated self-care slot. \u2018After a workout, I do meditate as well,\u2019 she says. ‘I also cook a lot, which is therapeutic to me. I journal, I take walks in nature, I ground myself.\u2019<\/p>\n

To make it work, Eva believes in what she calls \u2018budgeting sleep\u2019 \u2013 in other words ensuring she gets enough rest to bounce out of bed, ready to work out. \u2018Sleep is a huge beauty hack,\u2019 she says. \u2018People are like, \u201cWhy do you look so great?\u201d \u2013 I\u2019m like, \u201cI sleep. I really sleep.\u201d It\u2019s hard here at Cannes, but I definitely prioritise sleep, and I think we don\u2019t do that enough.\u2019<\/p>\n

Whatever she\u2019s doing, it\u2019s clearly working. So with notebook at the ready, we dived into the reset of her beauty secrets and inspirations. Hint: being best friends with Victoria Beckham<\/a> might help. <\/p>\n

What are you learning about yourself in your 50s? <\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s a great time. You know, I had a meltdown when I turned 30. I was like, \u2018Oh my god, my life is over.\u2019 Now I\u2019m like, \u2018Shut up!\u2019 I loved turning 40, and I loved turning 50. I love the wisdom that comes with experience. I love the life\u2019s journeys that I get to reflect on, but also look forward to. I think it\u2019s a good moment of emotional inventory for me. The second half of my life is definitely about managing the time I have to do the things I really love.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s at the top of that inventory?<\/p>\n

Definitely my family and my son. He\u2019s just started school, and so now I\u2019m like, \u2018Okay, how can I make sure I’m there for my son?\u2019 If I take projects that really pull me away from my son, it has to be something that\u2019s really worth doing.<\/p>\n

What makes you feel beautiful now that didn\u2019t when you were 30 and having your existential crisis?<\/p>\n

My son. He looks at me with rose-coloured glasses. He just thinks I\u2019m the greatest thing in the world. He holds my face and he’s just like, \u2018Mom, I love you.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m done.\u2019 I could do nothing else in this world except be with him, and my life will be fine.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re also looking, forgive us, very foxy in your 50s\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019m 50 and I\u2019m foxy! Oh, I\u2019m going to make that into a shirt! [laughs] Um, but I do feel it. I do feel sexiness comes from confidence. You don\u2019t have to be wearing a low-cut shirt to feel sexy. I could be in a cashmere sweater and sweats and still feel sexy. <\/p>\n

You\u2019ve said this is a \u2018less is more\u2019 beauty phase for you. What does that look like, in practical terms?<\/p>\n

I want products that do more. I don\u2019t want a foundation, I want a tinted moisturiser that also has SPF, that\u2019s also skincare. I want the lipstick that lasts but is also really moisturising. And I want the shampoo that has hyaluronic acid, so it prolongs your color and also conditions. I love the new wave of technology that L\u2019Or\u00e9al Paris for all that. <\/p>\n

Who are your beauty inspirations?<\/p>\n

Victoria Beckham<\/a>. Oh my god, absolutely. Victoria is the queen of less is more. She\u2019s definitely my fashion inspiration too, and it she inspires me as a mother. She\u2019s naturally so stunning and she\u2019s so effortless in everything, in the way she dresses and how she does her makeup. It\u2019s so simple and yet devastatingly eye-catching. No matter what room she walks into, your eye goes straight to Victoria.<\/p>\n

I grew up with a great relationship to my self-worth because of my mom and my sisters. They taught me I deserved whatever I wanted in life, and I could attain it.
