Children had to witness verbal abuse from a man whose trousers were slipping down revealing his backside and who removed his shirt during the disturbance in the middle of the day in Cork city centre.<\/p>\n
Now at Cork District Court, 43-year-old Daniel (Danny) Walsh of 15 Charles Daly Road, Togher, Cork, has been jailed for two months for his threatening behaviour.<\/p>\n
The same man had 123 previous convictions and 31 of them were for engaging in threatening behaviour. Sergeant Gear\u00f3id Davis described the incident that occurred at 2.30pm on Wednesday, May 28.<\/p>\n
\u201cGarda\u00ed were alerted to a male causing a disturbance. Garda\u00ed approached defendant Danny Walsh. He was shouting loudly and in an aggressive manner at members of the public including children in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was partially clothed and had removed his top. His trousers had slipped down partially exposing his backside,\u201d Sgt Davis said. He was arrested and charged with engaging in threatening behaviour.<\/p>\n
Frank Buttimer said the sergeant had given an accurate description of what occurred. He said the courts in Cork were unfortunately very familiar with the accused.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has capacity in terms of criminal offending and understanding of what goes on. But he had a catastrophic head injury at the age of 17.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has burned his bridges with care. He is unmanageable. He has a house. He does not occupy it when he should. He rambles into town. He amuses other people who don\u2019t have his best interests at heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has spent months and months in prison. Courts have tried to deal with him by non-custodial sentences but these don\u2019t work. He is back in again. It sounds like I am giving out about him,\u201d Mr Buttimer said.<\/p>\n
However, he said that it was a very difficult situation where the defendant\u2019s sister had worked tirelessly to help her brother but that that he cannot appear to stay out of trouble.<\/p>\n
