{"id":486030,"date":"2026-06-06T11:02:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T11:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/486030\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T11:02:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T11:02:10","slug":"dublin-man-was-swinging-umbrella-and-screaming-at-passers-by-on-cork-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/486030\/","title":{"rendered":"Dublin man was swinging umbrella and screaming at passers-by on Cork street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Swinging an umbrella and screaming at passers-by in Cork city centre resulted in a Dubliner getting a suspended jail term at Cork District Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Catherine Ryan imposed a one-month sentence suspended for 12 months in the case against 32-year-old Alex Bowler who lives at an apartment at No 239 Lower Kimmage Rd, Dublin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Sergeant John Kelleher described the incident that Garda Ronan O\u2019Sullivan investigated at French Church St, Cork, on October 11, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cSeveral members of the public informed that there was a male in a brown leather jacket swinging an umbrella at people, shouting at people and intimidating persons with broken glass,\u201d Sgt Kelleher told Cork District Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cGarda O\u2019Sullivan patrolled the area and another member of the public told him of a man swinging umbrella at people and screaming and shouting around the comer on French Church St.\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cOn arrival, Garda O\u2019Sullivan observed a male whom he now knows to be Alex Bowler drinking a glass bottle of beer and screaming and shouting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cHe was aggressively kicking a number of commercial premises, intimidating passers-by.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cMr Bower was angry and was warned he would be arrested if he didn\u2019t calm down and desist in his behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            \u201cMr Bowler would not take direction from Garda O\u2019Sullivan.\u201d\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Mr Bowler was ultimately arrested and charged with threatening behaviour and being drunk and a danger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Solicitor Eddie Burke said the defendant was trying to the best of his ability to engage with the support services being made available to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Ryan expressed the hope that he would not come to the further attention of garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Swinging an umbrella and screaming at passers-by in Cork city centre resulted in a Dubliner getting a suspended&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":486031,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[79,54,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-486030","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-cork-news","tag-courts","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/486030","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=486030"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/486030\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/486031"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=486030"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=486030"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=486030"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
