A Cork man who was arrested at a hotel in West Cork following what was described as \u201ca domestic dispute\u201d has since entered a drug treatment programme for cocaine addiction the district court has heard.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Tom Mulcahy told Skibbereen District Court that garda\u00ed were called to attend a disturbance at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen in the early hours of January 3, 2026.<\/p>\n
When they arrived they found Ian Corcoran, aged 34, of Carrig Court, Church Road, Blackrock, Cork, in a highly intoxicated state in the hotel car park at 2.10am.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Corcoran was involved in a domestic dispute in the hotel during which he grabbed his car keys and left the building. Garda\u00ed were alerted by a concerned third party and Corcoran was eventually arrested in the car park for his own safety and the safety of others.<\/p>\n
Corcoran pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place and explained to the court that he had not appeared at a previous hearing because he had entered a 30-day residential drug treatment programme soon after the incident in Skibbereen.<\/p>\n
The court heard that Corcoran, who represented himself, had five previous convictions for driving offences and had received a suspended sentence for driving without a licence. Corcoran told the court his addiction issue was with cocaine and that he had been drug-free since January and was now working in a warehouse.<\/p>\n
Judge Joanne Carroll said that because Corcoran had undergone treatment she would admit him to a probation bond for 12 months on condition he would attend appropriate drug addiction services.<\/p>\n
