{"id":486641,"date":"2026-06-06T20:42:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T20:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/486641\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T20:42:10","slug":"bundoran-man-awaiting-sentence-for-hotel-assault-ordered-to-be-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/486641\/","title":{"rendered":"Bundoran man awaiting sentence for hotel assault ordered to be in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A judge has ordered a Bundoran man awaiting sentencing for an assault to appear in court.<\/p>\n<p>Judge \u00c9ite\u00e1in Cunningham has warned that a bench warrant will be issued for 46-year-old Colin Harrison if he fails to appear.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison, of Market Square, Bundoran, was due before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/courts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ballyshannon District Court<\/a> to meet a charge arising out of an incident on February 27, 2024 at the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector Tony Byrne told the court that the injured party was on his mobile phone when Harrison &#8211; described as his \u201cformer friend\u201d &#8211; approached him.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector Byrne said that Harrison got the other man in a headlock and pushed him through the hallway.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was said to have received \u201ca number of boxes to the head\u201d from Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>The man suffered cuts on his ear and lip while CCTV was obtained and Harrison was later interviews. Mr McGovern said that his client had suffered a back injury, which meant that he could not sit for a prolonged period.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/courts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Judge Cunningham<\/a> said that the incident had an effect on the victim and added: \u201cI appreciate that he may be unwell, but he will have to come to court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr McGovern outlined that he had told his client this \u201cin no uncertain terms\u201d including on the morning prior to the schedule court appearance.<\/p>\n<p>The matter was adjourned to July 17 and Harrison has been directed to be present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will issue a bench warrant if he is not here,\u201d Judge Cunningham said. \u201cIt will be first on the list and he can stand for proceedings so his back won\u2019t be impacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a victim here who needs to be protected and the court cannot allow this to continue.
