href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/swimming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/swimming\/\">swimming<\/a> spots in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> due to heavy and persistent rainfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One new and three extended prohibition notices have been put in place by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dun-laoghaire-rathdown-county-council\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dun-laoghaire-rathdown-county-council\/\">D\u00fan Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The ban, which was imposed on Saturday, is now affecting Seapoint, close to D\u00fan Laoghaire, and will remain in place until Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The no-swimming notice has also been extended at Blackrock Baths, Corbawn Strand and the Forty Foot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Prior warning notices in place for five other bathing areas are to last until Thursday covering Coliemore Harbour, Sandycove, D\u00fan Laoghaire Baths, Killiney Beach and Whiterock Beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement the council outlined that \u201cadditional [water quality] sampling\u201d is to be carried out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It said that due to the weather forecast of \u201cheavy and persistent rain over the weekend and into early next week, and the increased risk of storm water overflows,\u201d the warning notices have been issued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council said the situation will be \u201cmonitored\u201d over the weekend and tests are scheduled to take place at high tide 7am on Tuesday with results due on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Several of the bathing spots affected have been closed on numerous occasions in recent years due to water quality issues caused primarily by heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Last month the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classed the water quality at D\u00fan Laoghaire Baths as \u201cpoor\u201d due to isolated pollution incidents such as storm water overflows in 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The agency said a bathing restriction\/advisory notice had been issued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, the council questioned the EPA\u2019s stance and noted that over a three-year period to 2026 the water met \u201cgood\u201d standards, and until the current
