Despite already being a week into the start of June, there has been no sign of the summer sunshine as the country has been battered by a seemingly never-ending deluge of wind and rain in recent days.<\/p>\n

A new \u201cmobile Atlantic regime\u201d over the country has ushered in a continuation of unsettled weather, with rain or showers falling every day this week, while temperatures have been cooler than average for the time of year.<\/p>\n

The miserable weather<\/a> is set to continue on Sunday and into next week, with further spells of heavy rain forecast for the coming days.<\/p>\n

However, there is hope that we might final see the return of summer-like weather in the not too distant future, with Met Eireann<\/a> pinpointing exactly when we can expect the rain to end and be replaced by warm and dry conditions.<\/p>\n

It seems we may also soon may be able to swap the raincoats and umbrellas for shorts and sunscreen, with the latest forecasts showing temperatures soaring to a sizzling 23C next week.<\/p>\n

Met Eireann has said that “temperatures should improve later in the week,” with the national forecaster adding that “currently it looks warmer and drier for Friday with sunny spells”.<\/p>\n

Met Eireann’s prediction is backed up by the Global Forecast System (GFS), a comprehensive weather prediction model run by the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction, which shows temperatures rising to 23C in parts of the country on Friday.<\/p>\n

However, one weather expert has warned that we should take promises of scorching temperatures on Friday with ‘a pinch of salt’ as another weather model has forecast the mercury to remain in the mid-teens by the end of next week.<\/p>\n

Alan O’Reilly<\/a>, who mans the popular @CarlowWeather account on X, told his followers on Sunday: “A damp morning and turning very wet again this evening. Also GFS model going for a warm Friday but ECMWF model having none of it so take any promises for warm Friday with a pinch of salt for now.”<\/p>\n

According to Met Eireann’s latest forecast, it’s set to be another damp, dull and windy day on Sunday, with “persistent and heavy, spreading across the country through the morning and afternoon”.<\/p>\n

Dry conditions are expected in the west ater n the day, but the rain is expected to continue into the evening in the east.<\/p>\n

Monday will start off bright and dry before being replaced by widespread spells of rain, with further showers expected on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n

Sunday (June 7): A mostly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, some of which will be persistent and heavy, spreading across the country through the morning and afternoon. Drier and brighter conditions will develop in the west this evening. However, it will remain wet in eastern parts with some heavy downpours. Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C in moderate to fresh southwest winds, easing in the west later.<\/p>\n

Tonight: Outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the east will linger for a time early in the night before clearing out over the Irish Sea. Drier and clearer conditions will spread from the west with a few light showers developing in western parts later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 9C in light to moderate southwest to west winds. Some mist patches forming.<\/p>\n

Monday (June 8): A bright start to the week on Monday with a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers will become more widespread through the day, occasionally falling heavy, especially in the north. Highest temperatures of 12C to 16C in moderate west to southwest winds, fresh along western coasts.<\/p>\n

Tuesday (June 9): Tuesday will be a day of showers and sunny spells, again some heavy, with the chance of thunder possible. Highest temperatures of 13C to 16C, mildest in the southeast, in moderate west to north-west winds, fresher on exposed coasts.<\/p>\n
