Year of the Rabbit, the acclaimed British sitcom starring Matt Berry and Susan Wokoma, is streaming<\/a> on Netflix<\/a>. But you’ll have to hurry, as the series is due to leave the service in the near future.<\/p>\n

The sitcom<\/a> sees Berry portray Detective Inspector Eli Rabbit, a seasoned “booze-hound” who has seen almost everything. After falling into ill health, he is forced to work with a “hapless” Detective Sergeant and his boss’ adopted daughter. <\/p>\n

The series, which was written by Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, originally aired on Channel 4 in 2019, and was added to Netflix last year<\/a>. It is due to be removed from the streamer, however, as it is in the ‘Leaving Soon’ category.<\/p>\n

In addition to Berry and Wokoma, the latter of whom plays Sergeant Mabel Wisbech, the stacked cast for the six-part series includes Alun Armstrong, Freddie Fox, Paul Kaye, Ann Mitchell, Alistair Petrie, Jill Halfpenny and Keeley Hawes.<\/p>\n

Upon its release, Year of the Rabbit garnered acclaim from critics and viewers alike, with Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> currently reporting a near-perfect approval rating of 94% from 18 reviews. Its audience score is also high, standing at 83%.<\/p>\n

“The best material subverts the crime and costume-drama genres and all of their clich\u00e9s, like Ripper Street gone off its rocker. The pace is fast, and the language is gleefully profane,” noted The Boston Globe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Perhaps the greatest joy of Year of the Rabbit is seeing the sheer dexterity that this mismatched core police trio shows off from episode to episode,” wrote IndieWire<\/a>, and added that Berry was “born” to play the lead role.<\/p>\n

“Year of the Rabbit thrives in its beautiful blending of cinematography, music, and a tight script that all come together to create an experience that you do not want to miss,” wrote Film Inquiry<\/a>, while The Times<\/a> called it “really, really funny”.<\/p>\n

Following its success with both critics and viewers, the sitcom was renewed for a second season by Channel 4<\/a> in February 2020, though this decision was ultimately reversed the following year.<\/p>\n
