{"id":488077,"date":"2026-06-07T21:31:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-07T21:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/488077\/"},"modified":"2026-06-07T21:31:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-07T21:31:16","slug":"poughkeepsie-former-psych-center-can-yet-be-revitalized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/488077\/","title":{"rendered":"Poughkeepsie: Former psych center &#8216;can yet be revitalized&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The town of Poughkeepsie is looking ahead after the <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/hudson-valley\/news\/2026\/06\/03\/fire-tears-through-former-hudson-river-psychiatric-center\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fire<\/a> at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1529630269173509&amp;set=a.861144402688769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement released on social media<\/a> Saturday, the town reported that air quality in the area continues to be normal.<\/p>\n<p>The fire that began Wednesday destroyed several historic buildings, but Poughkeepsie still intends to work with developers on repurposing the site.<\/p>\n<p>The town said the site &#8220;can yet be revitalized in a way that honors its past while creating a walkable neighborhood with substantial new housing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The district said last week the cause and origin of the fire were being investigated by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division and other agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Officials remind residents that the site is private property and many hazards still exist on the premises.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The town of Poughkeepsie is looking ahead after the fire at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center.
