The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a>\u00a0is now part of the $1 billion club.<\/p>\n

Per Deadline<\/a>, the Illumination film crossed the threshold this weekend. Where the original movie reached that in less than a month<\/a>,\u00a0Galaxy\u00a0took ten weeks. There\u2019s probably a few reasons for that\u2014aside from the mixed reception it earned, it did get leaked online<\/a> for a little bit. But the biggest thing stopping Galaxy\u2019s momentum was probably how spring wound up pretty busy<\/a> when it came to movies<\/a>. Most of\u00a0Galaxy\u2019s\u00a0competition wasn\u2019t really kids fare, but they sure dominated the conversation.<\/p>\n

Now that\u00a0Super Mario Galaxy\u00a0made $1 billion, the two films make up the ninth-highest animated film franchise worldwide. At a combined $2.30B, they\u2019re sandwiched between Dreamworks\u2019 Kung Fu Panda\u00a0($2.37B) and\u00a0Madagascar\u00a0($2.26B). Compared to its predecessor,\u00a0Galaxy\u00a0is the second-highest grossing video game movie worldwide behind the 2023 Mario,\u00a0and the second highest-grossing animated film for Universal and Illumination individually.<\/p>\n

Outside of its theatrical run, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already hit digital platforms<\/a>. It\u2019s getting a physical release next week on June 16, so its story is done. Now it\u2019s just a matter of waiting for the next movie hitting in 2028 or later<\/a>.<\/p>\n
