{"id":488377,"date":"2026-06-08T02:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T02:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/488377\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T02:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T02:56:14","slug":"national-ambulance-service-training-college-to-be-located-in-east-cork-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/488377\/","title":{"rendered":"National Ambulance Service training college to be located in East Cork town\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41855358.html\">Youghal<\/a> has been approved to develop Ireland\u2019s fourth National Ambulance Service training college.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cork East Fianna F\u00e1il TD James O&#8217;Connor said that he had received confirmation that the HSE board had signed off on the development.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Youghal will join Ballinasloe, Tullamore and Offaly in having such a training facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The college is understood to be located as an additional expansion to the new Primary Care Centre that is currently under construction near Pobalscoil na Tr\u00edon\u00f3ide in the town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr O&#8217;Connor said that the project would create jobs in the town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n            \u201cThis is a major boost to Youghal and will involve a multi-million euro investment into the town. It will create a significant number of jobs and bring over 50 students a year to our locality to study as paramedics and all ambulance related training.&#8221;\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The project had suffered a temporary setback when the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41849496.html\">HSE<\/a> deemed another site at St Raphael\u2019s too expensive to redevelop, leading to Mr O&#8217;Connor calling plans for a temporary base at Haulbowline &#8220;a joke&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Hard fought for\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A new 60-bedroom community nursing unit is now being assessed on a greenfield site at the St Raphael\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr O&#8217;Connor said that the decision to locate the college in Youghal was \u201chard fought for and involved a series of ministerial meetings prior to the development being included in the HSE capital plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;I understand this can be delivered within a 9-12 month period following planning approval,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr O\u2019Connor said that Youghal was the perfect candidate town due to its proximity between Cork and Waterford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In a recent parliamentary response to Mr O&#8217;Connor, the HSE said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;A proposed ambulance training base for Youghal has been included in the HSE Capital Plan 2026. The procurement process for the appointment of a design team for this project is underway, the HSE has completed the tender enquiry stage of the process with the evaluation of tenders due to complete in early Q2, 2026.&#8221; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Youghal has been approved to develop Ireland\u2019s fourth National Ambulance Service training college.
