In recent days drones have been sighted near military facilities in Denmark as well as Danish airports which have caused significant issues, while suspicious drone sightings have also been made in Germany, Norway and Lithuania.<\/p>\n

The string of drone activity in Denmark has raised concerns about the nation\u2019s vulnerability to drone attacks and potential Russian involvement. On Sunday, Denmark issued a ban on all commercial and private drone activity as it battles the scourge.<\/p>\n

Mr Harris, who is also Defence Minister, said today that no country is immune to these sorts of attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s one of the reasons why we’re significantly increasing our Defence Forces capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should never fool ourselves or convince ourselves that Ireland is immune from such attack,\u201d he said, adding that it is important the government invests in radar capability.<\/p>\n

Drones are being increasingly used in intelligence gathering and warfare.<\/p>\n

The Defence Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Rossa Mulcahy, said he hopes that new aerial defence capabilities will be delivered in 2026.<\/p>\n

They were speaking at McKee Barracks in Dublin as part of the Defence Force\u2019s Veteran\u2019s Day where tributes were paid to Irish soldiers who have served both at home and on peacekeeping missions overseas.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event Mr Harris said: \u201cVeterans\u2019 Day is an opportunity too for us to reflect on the extraordinary courage, contributions, and indeed sacrifices, that our Defence Forces personnel have made both at home and in conflict zones around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to pay tribute to the important role that each of you have played during your career at home and overseas. Your dedication and service has contributed in no small measure to the excellent reputation that Ireland and the Defence Forces enjoy. I thank you for your commitment\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lt Gen Rossa Mulcahy added that veterans are a central part of the military community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are the embodiment of the Defence Forces Values and represent the strength of the camaraderie and friendships developed through military service.
