A Naas woman who has been diagnosed with skin cancer four times has issued a series of warnings about cancer development.<\/p>\n
Linda Chanders is also a patient partner with the Irish Cancer Society.<\/p>\n
Ms Chanders who first received a diagnosis in 2021.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Kildare Today, she said that it’s important to be very careful when it comes to sun protection:<\/p>\n
“What we do now will affect us in the next 5 to 10 years, particularly for children.”<\/p>\n
Ms Chanders emphasised the importance of check-ups and early intervention.<\/p>\n
“It’s all about\u00a0early intervention, know your body, check your body every month for anything that is different.”<\/p>\n
She also dismissed some perceptions people may have of skin cancer.<\/p>\n
“Skin cancer was often known as an older person’s condition, but now we’re seeing younger people getting it, we’re seeing people in their 30s\u00a0[getting skin cancer].\u00a0It effects everybody.”<\/p>\n
“Sadly this year a 15-year-old lost his life to melanoma.”<\/p>\n
She is now undertaking a project of travelling to every county in Ireland offering a free programme about how to prevent skin cancer while also raising awareness about it.<\/p>\n
“I’m asking people if anyone has a barn, a shed, a community hall or anywhere that we can gather people to do our presentation and meet people.”<\/p>\n
“It’s quick, short, and to the point.”<\/p>\n
