{"id":490299,"date":"2026-06-09T08:30:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T08:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/490299\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T08:30:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T08:30:11","slug":"nintendo-agrees-to-pay-french-fine-over-controller-defect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/490299\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo Agrees to Pay French Fine over Controller Defect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"csp-catelogo\">\n\t\t\t\t\tNewsfrom Japan\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"c-cate c-cate0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nippon.com\/en\/articlelist.html?f=ncf-category&amp;s=Economy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Economy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tJun 9, 2026 13:47 (JST)<\/p>\n<p>Paris, June 8 (Jiji Press)&#8211;France\u2019s consumer protection agency said Monday it will impose a fine of 35 million euros on Japan\u2019s Nintendo Co. for failing to properly inform consumers about a defect in its Nintendo Switch controllers.<\/p>\n<p>The agency proposed a settlement in which it would waive prosecution for violations of consumer law in exchange for payment of a fine, and Nintendo\u2019s European subsidiary accepted the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the announcement by the Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, some controllers for the original Switch game console exhibited a \u201cdrift\u201d phenomenon, in which game characters moved contrary to the player\u2019s intentions.<\/p>\n<p>The problem led to a series of complaints across Europe.
