Widow\u2019s Bay has just two episodes to go, and the Apple TV horror comedy is building toward something very stormy<\/a> as it nears its finale. Its considerable fan base is going to have a hard time saying good-bye to this delightfully weird island full of unique characters and terrifying creatures. So far, the streamer hasn\u2019t commented on whether or not a second season is coming, but it\u2019s something creator Katie Dippold<\/a> has long hoped for, and star Matthew Rhys<\/a>, who plays Mayor Tom Loftis, is right there with her.<\/p>\n

In a new interview on the Television Academy<\/a> website, Dippold said her goal is that \u201cthe audience just wants to lean in more and more.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a feeling she herself felt while coming up with the setting for her show. \u201cI always wanted this place to feel like a real world that I could take a ferry to and get lost in and explore all the little terrifying nooks and crannies,\u201d she said. \u201cI would be dead after a week, but that\u2019s the dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Rhys, playing the show\u2019s goofy yet poignant main character is made even more rewarding because of the rich world Widow\u2019s Bay surrounds him with. \u201cWhen I first read the [pilot] script, it was almost a disservice to call it a horror-comedy,\u201d Rhys said. \u201cWhat Katie and the writers and the entire crew have done is they\u2019ve built a place with a history and characters you cannot get anywhere else on television. There is a deep bench of stories to be told about this town, about these people.\u201d<\/p>\n

A \u201cdeep bench\u201d of potential stories definitely seems like something Widow\u2019s Bay could deliver on. Apple TV should probably do a multiple-season renewal, don\u2019t you think? We need more! Think of all the past and future disasters the show could explore! (We\u2019re good with just the one crawl-space killer clown, however.)<\/p>\n

A new episode of Widow\u2019s Bay arrives Wednesday on Apple TV, with the season finale dropping next week.<\/p>\n
