Barstool Sports personality Evan \u201cBig Ev\u201d McDowell finally revealed on Wednesday why he suddenly disappeared<\/a> from the popular media outlet earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a gambling addict,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it just got way out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a four-and-a-half-minute video he posted to his X page, McDowell shared that he stepped away from Barstool in April and May in order to get treatment for his gambling addiction.<\/p>\n

\u201cI needed to do something drastic,\u201d he said. \u201cGet help and admit that I am powerless over it. Had to go get the help that I needed. And I\u2019m feeling better than I\u2019ve felt in a really, really long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans first noticed McDowell\u2019s absence in April, after he appeared to be pulled from Barstool\u2019s gambling show \u201cPicks Central\u201d as well as all other Barstool content. His X page, which he normally updated regularly, had also gone dark, with his last post coming on March 31.<\/p>\n

Rumors that he had been facing trouble for taking advantage of his followers and stiffing bookies swirled amid his absence \u2014 and in his message Wednesday, he admitted \u201csome of\u201d the allegations against him were \u201ctrue,\u201d though \u201ca lot of it\u201d was not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want everyone to hear it from me,\u201d he said. \u201cIt just got completely out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDowell issued an apology to anyone who was impacted by his behavior, while he thanked those who stood by him in the process of him getting better.<\/p>\n

He also announced that he\u2019d be resuming his gig at Barstool.<\/p>\n

\u201cShout to Dave [Portnoy], shoutout to Barstool for giving me the space I needed to go get help,\u201d he said. \u201cFor having my back and supporting me through all this. Best company in the world. Best boss in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cNowhere else I\u2019d rather be. So very, very grateful that I\u2019m still at Barstool and I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDowell added in a caption on his video that his direct messages were \u201copen for anyone struggling with mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n
