Lowell celebrates its 200th birthday this year, and to honor\u00a0 and commemorate the bicentennial the galleries and museums of the Mill City are putting on exhibits and strutting their stuff.<\/p>\n

The most recent exhibition is \u201cLowellScapes,\u201d open now through July 26 at Brush Gallery and Studios, Market Street, adjacent to the LNHP Visitor Center.<\/p>\n

A photography exhibit in conjunction with Lowell\u2019s bicentennial, it celebrates history through the medium of photography. The theme is centered around architecture, Lowell landmarks and popular scenery both current and no longer existing).<\/p>\n

Photographers include Adrien Bisson, Jeff Caplan, Tammy Dohner, Kevin Harkins, Paul Richardson, Coleman Rogers, Peg Shanahan, and Tory Wesnofske.<\/p>\n

The reception is Saturday, June 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and a photography demonstration is on Saturday, June 20, at 3 p.m. Visit www.thebrush.org<\/a> for info and hours.<\/p>\n

At the Concord Museum join curator and director of exhibitions Christie Jackson and curator David Wood for a gallery talk in the new special exhibition Revolutionary Legacies. It\u2019s tomorrow, June 12, from noon to 12:30 p.m. and it\u2019s free with museum admission and free to members. PHOTO EXHIBIT AT THE MFA \u2014 Faces in the Crowd: Street Photography is on through July 13 in the Herb Ritts Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts\u00a0 Boston. \u201cThe exhibition explores the evolving techniques photographers have used to record the human experience as it has played out in populous urban spaces\u2014from Harlem and Los Angeles to Tokyo and Istanbul \u2014 over five decades. Photographs from the 1970s through the \u201990s by the likes of Garry Winogrand, Helen Levitt, Dawoud Bey, Stephen Shore, and Yolanda Andrade appear alongside more recent work by artists such as Luc Delahaye, Katy Grannan, Amani Willett, Zoe Strauss, and Martin Parr. These images create a compelling visual conversation that encourages visitors to consider developments in photography as well as changes in cities and societies at large. The ubiquity of camera phones today has very much made all the world a stage. In the modern city, photographers are now less concerned with surreptitiously capturing an image and much more likely to collaborate with their subjects in the street. Drawn to photography\u2019s narrative potential, many employ the camera as a tool of transformation, taking everyday pictures from the ordinary to the strangely beautiful or even ominous.
