{"id":494627,"date":"2026-06-11T17:14:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T17:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/494627\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T17:14:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T17:14:11","slug":"e60000-claim-for-alleged-sexual-harassment-of-waitress-in-dublin-gastropub-settled-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/494627\/","title":{"rendered":"\u20ac60,000 claim for alleged sexual harassment of waitress in Dublin gastropub settled \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A \u20ac60,000 claim for alleged sexual harassment and assault of a waitress in one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>\u2019s best-known pub-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/food\/restaurants\/\">restaurants<\/a> has been settled following inter-party talks, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/courts\/\">judge<\/a> was told on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Claudia Amaral Callai had sued Dannervale Limited, which trades as The Dockers, on Sir John Rogerson\u2019s Quay, a gastropub whose patrons have included David Bowie and members of U2..<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Callai, of St Ignatius Road, Phibsborough, Dublin 7, had alleged she had been the victim of sexual touching, repeated and improper comments, harassment and discrimination by a more senior member of staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Dannervale, in a full defence, had denied  it was vicariously liable for the conduct and acts of its employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In her proceedings against the company  Callai alleged that management and her supervisors had been aware of \u201cthe egregious conduct, horrific discrimination and sexual harassment\u201d she claimed she had experienced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She claimed her employment had terminated as a consequence of her having not welcomed the sexual advances of the staff member alleged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"> Callai had sought compensation for discrimination under the Employment Equality Act and damages for assault and trespass as well as for negligence and breach of duty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Following talks between the parties, barrister Matthew Jolley, who appeared with Murray Flynn Solicitors for Callai,  thanked Judge Pauline Codd for the time she had allowed for negotiations and said the parties had succeeded in resolving all issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He asked the court to put the matter back to mid-July when, he said, final orders could be made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A \u20ac60,000 claim for alleged sexual harassment and assault of a waitress in one of Dublin\u2019s best-known pub-restaurants&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":494628,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[615,61,60,43,5861],"class_list":["post-494627","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-dublin","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news","tag-restaurant"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/494627","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=494627"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/494627\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/494628"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=494627"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=494627"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=494627"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
